Uhhh...with a $200 price cap...i dunno...a 1GHz T-bird? But I see you have a Pentium and your 800MHz P3 is still worth $150...so definitely not intel. As for ram...hmmm...Crucial had a price drop on 256 PC133 CAS3...$70-something...so that comes out to $140 for two sticks no tax yet...but i got this from the Sale/Trade forum here(you gotta look for the thread...can't remember the link)...you could go and check out their promotion...you just type in a business...whatever it is...even your school...and you get a discount.

Oh in that case then definitely AMD...1GHz @ 266 retail...for $172...you can hunt around until you get all the way up to $200.

AMD definetly, check with COMPUWIZ. A 1GHz AXIA @ 1.4GHz or higher, and thats just about the best money the customer will ever have spent!!!

Does this need to include the motherboard? If not, what type of board will you be using, and if so, then you can get an IWill KK266 board and Duron 850 for $190 shipped at newegg.com Crucial seems to have the best price on quality memory, right now the 256mb PC133 CAS2 is at $79 with 2 day shipping free, make sure you go through http://www.crucial.com/webpromo to get the discount.

prices for these components can be cound here and if you are planning on getting a new mobo as well then you might want to consider ddr ram, you can get two 256mb sticks from crucial for ~$150 with free shipping, and that is for the pc2100.

I'd say if your not going to OverClock the CPU, go to NewEgg.com and order a AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz 266 FSB Retail version for $173 plus $10 shipping. For Memory go to Crucial.com, they have 256MB of PC2100 CL 2.5 for $79.19 free 2 day air(buy two sticks since they're cheap). For a Motherboard go to Newegg.com and buy the Epox 8K7A for $129 plus $5 shipping(from what I've been reading this is a very stable MB). This is also the setup that I just purchased.

you can use ddr or sdram for the 1.33GHz...depending on what your motherboard supprorts. The difference between PC2100 and PC1600 is just like the difference between PC133 and PC100...the other one is faster...might as well go for the faster one...i don't know why they keep making a slower memory version...almost everyone would get the faster one anyway for the small price difference.
