I just replaced my wife's old e-machine 333 with a new HP 866. I want to upgrade her old box as a general purpose game machine on our home network for my son and daughter's friends to use when they want to play netwrok games against each other. The current emachines CPU is a Cyrix 333 using an 89MHz FSB. If you can believe the jumper info inside the box then the MB can run a 100MHz FSB. The CPU socket appears to be a straight socket 7. The memory in this box is already 100MHz capable.
So I'm wondering - what is the fastest CPU I could run in this box? In other words, what is the fastest CPU I can get that will operate from a straight Socket 7 and with a 100MHz FSB? Or is it too late - are there no upgrades possible (or practical) for this situation?
Thanks, Axel
