What CPU Can I Get?

Hi all. I appreciate any help I can get from anyone on here.

I have a 1 year old Abit KG7-RAID motherboard. I need to get myself a new CPU for it, and I'm wondering what's the newest/fastest Athlon that it can support?

With the latest bios flash, it should support the new 2400+ and 2600+. However, for about $53 you can get the 1600+, with the right stepping you can hit 1800-1900MHz. Very cheap and very tempting!

I agree with him, get a 1600+ with AGOIA or AROIA stepping. Those r good overclockers! 😉

I'm gonna flash the new bios, but the KG7-RAID does support AthlonXPs, right? I don't wanna shell out the cash just to realize that the chip won't fit. The change in the chips structure doesn't affect its compatibility... right?

Yeah it supports! It will fit on ur socket A mobo. Nope, no compatibility problems like the KT7A mobos.

1600's are great! The AROIA/AGOIA love to be overclocked. Just look at my sig 😀

Ok. The new AXP2800+. I read in PCGamer that they have a 333mhz FSB. Will my old KG7-RAID support that? I think the KG7-RAID was released back when Athlon's FSBs were like 200 - 266. Back in the olden days of summer 2001.

Also, I have Corsair PC2400 RAM. Is that too old for the CPU? Will it act as a bottleneck? Or will it still be good... ASSUMING that I can run the 2800+...

No you can't use the 333Mhz chips, but they are still at least 4-6 weeks away, you can only run the 266 (133mhz) chips.
your board has a AMD chipset, so it will not overclock very well, but that does not mean don't try 🙂

But get a Athlon XP between 1600+ and 2000+ and make sure you have a good heatsink, I don't know what you are upgrading from so you may already have a good one.

Just update that BIOS first, and have fun

Ok, now I have a new problem. Where can I find a AVC 112C80 HSF? I've looked all over, and I simply can't find a place that sells them! Does ANYONE know where I can get one of these?
