What could I use to scare away pigeons from my backyard?

Have used rubber snakes, which worked for about a day. So much poop in the yard. This can't be healthy. Doesn't help the stupid neighbour insists on putting bird seeds out.

So

well, I'd say remove the attraction (for us it was a water source) but in your case, that's out of your control. Before we just stopped the source, we had some brief success with this metal cutout that looked like the profile of a cat. It hung from a hook and had glass eyes to glitter in the sun.

Yea, we have a pond too. Did you get rid of your water source?

Essentially. Our 'water source' was the fountain in our pool. The pigeons can't drink from a normal pool deck (they'd fall in) but they could stand in the waterfall portion of the fountain and drink from that. We put a mesh grate over the fountain so they can't access that water. Since then, most of them have moved on to wetter pastures (they still come but in normal, non property ruining numbers).

Shotgun!

If you can't do that without getting a visit from the police I'd try a pellet gun.

we had a pigeon issue in the porch of my previous apartment..we bought one of the owls from Academy to try and scare them away...

a few hours after we set the owl out, the pigeons were 'hangin' out with owl...

what worked for us was using a carpet tackstrips turned upside down...that probably won't do too well in the backyard...

If it was a rodent destroying yard problem, I would say to you: "Chase them down with a shovel. If they stop, stab in that area and see if anything comes up." Another idea would be to corral the things with a jet of water and step on them....which would be pretty gruesome.

But since you have a pidgeon problem, I say you use a BB gun.

some strong adhesive around wherever they hang out? leave one there to die and let his corpse be a warning

...flamethrowers charr them too much for them to be recognizable to other pigeons ;)

believe it or not, you can sell pigeons for a dollar or two apiece...

Find a market for them (first)
Then, make some cannon/net contraptions...
Your problem has just been turned into extra income.

(you can send me a 10% commission for the idea)

Who the hell would pay for a stinking sky rat? Well, maybe someone who feeds them to a bird of prey but that's about all I can think of.
