What could cause glass to shatter like this?

the rear window on my car looked similar a few years ago.

i found a bb and its hole in the lower left corner. someone shot out my rear windshield with a bb gun :/

now i always park facing out of the driveway.

So that your windshield will get shot out instead?

I've had this happen with a glass shower door. Sitting upstairs with a girl and hear an extremely loud boom eerily similar to a gunshot. Went down to find glass all over for no apparent reason.

I have seen this happen to cars at sunrise. Cool night, clear sky & the sun "pops" up & rapidly heats the car interior & glass ... typically the rear window shattered.

Is that window facing the east, out of curiosity?

north-west ish, and only gets sun from ~12pm-3pm

front windshield glass is a little different than rear.
