What could be the reason for this?

I'm uncertain on the reason why my system does not power off when I go to Start>shutdown.

I'm sure it's an easy solution,anyone have any ideas on this?.

Try this, go to your desktop, right click, properties, screen saver, power, advanced, and set the button on your computer to shut down, apply, ok. Now try using the power button on the front of your case, hopefully it should shut down now. I don't really know why the shut down button in the start menu doesn't work but heopfully this will work in the time being.
