What could be causing this?

Hi, this is a problem I've been having for a long while with my video card. My screen randomly started turning red, and eventually my vid card died so I RMA'd it. I thought it was the video card, so after I got a new one back, maybe 1 month later the same thing started happening. The screen keeps going red randomly and I have to shift my desktop left or right for it to become clear again.

Any reason for this or a fix? I don't want to RMA another card 🙁

What kind of monitor do you have? If you have an LCD monitor, especially the old S-IPS types, those have been known to develop weird problems like the entire screen flashing purple or green after a couple of years.

Its either the cable or the monitor itself. If you already replaced the video card and it still does it, you've eliminated that as a possibility.

Verify the VGA or DVI cable isn't wedged or crimped somewhere, or replace it with a new cable from Monoprice or a spare you have.

If you have a CRT monitor, its possible one of your electron guns is dying.

if everything has a red shift, then its the cable -- I bet you are using VGA instead of DVI, right?

Happened to me all the time back in the day -- cept green used to go out so I got a purple screen.

Could be a number of things. I've had a bad VGA cable that did this. I've also had a Princeton monitor that popped loudly and then everything turned purple/magenta regardless of which cable I used. I assume a component failed on one of the monitor's circuit boards.
