Hi guys!
I am back for pushing a bit more my system! I joined this topic at the very beggining so still rocking the original V3.efi on my system (E5 2686v3 18c, asus x99 deluxe, 96gb of ram). I have read all the 68 pages but I am still lost in some concepts, so I have some questions:
1 - As I understand, the newer drivers undervolt the cpu and cache to get higher frecuency, no? Which one do you recomend I shoult start trying with? I guess the -50mv core, -50mv uncre should be accepted by all cpus?
2 - What does Powercut mean? Is it good? Bad? What does it do?
3 - My system now renders in vray at 2.7ghz (from 2.3ghz originally) using all cores and goes up to 3.5ghz with workloads of 8 cores or less, what should I expect to gain from newer efi? Anyone has experience with this 2686v3?
4 -As I understand, the EFI driver can be baked in the BIOS, no? Someone got an Asus X99 deluxe moded bios? If not, any tutorial? Is it really better than loading the efi as always?

Thanks a lot! I bought the 2686 before all of this and couldnt be happier with my workstation/gaming machine! haha

If I have some spare time, will try to update my original 00_OC ANANDTECH.rar tutorial for new starters, so its easier to get into this boat.

Regards!

I guess it works on all Asrock boards.
Well the original plan was to have it integrated to run as usual with other processors while providing special support for all steppings of Xeon (306f0-2) Perhaps though I bit off a bit more than I can chew and also am still hoping to get some other processors to see if it's feasible.

Unfortunately as variables in NVRAM are used it may not only be tied to a specific BIOS but also a specific version.

My board boots quite slowly compared to other systems of today and experiences disappearing NVMe so testing can be quite time consuming with lots of waiting and delays. On top of that without any source code everything needs to be checked. Don't know yet why there's a problem with PC6. Was going to have a large selection of ucodes to choose from but given how some can go into extreme power limiting might be a bad idea and instead just have much fewer options such as no ucode and a few of the latest ones. Would also be nice to unlock the DRAM speed but perhaps hoping too much there.

Some users are putting out alternatives and they appear to be working very well from the results that have been posted so everybody please remember to thank them for their efforts, they are the ones that are making it happen for a lot of people.

Check first if your Asus board already has BIOS options for setting voltage offsets and multipliers, if it does then easier for you to adjust from there.

Power cut is a means to disable SVID which kills power estimations thus bypassing set power limits

Loading the EFI driver was always meant to be a temporary solution. Usually there will be problems with sleep / wakeup when using an external driver. You'll need to decide yourself what best suits you.

It would be useful to have all the most relevant information on the OP.

For example, how would I embed the new EFI drivers on my X99M Killer BIOS? Currently running one of the uploaded modded BIOS.

Hi Vercety!

Arrufe here! You might remember that 2699v4 from modpc that we were talking about some months ago haha. Finally i followed your recommendation and picked up a 2686v3. I couldn´t be happier! Thx for your original 00_OC ANANDTECH.rar tutorial, it helps me a lot to mod my Gigabyte X99 UD-4 F.22 BIOS!

I have been using original V3.efi with rock solid clocks (8Core or less load @3.5GHz, All-Core load@2.8GHz). Recently i have tried new EFI releases with -70Vcore / -50 Uncore and it´s flawless (-90 too much and hangs PC). The one i´m using is "v3x2_70-50_vcc.efi" now with 10Core or less load @3.5GHz and All-Core load@3.0GHz

I´m using and external USB stick to load EFI driver as it allows me to store multiple EFI files and backup BIOS config files too. No cold boot issues or similar, so i´m not planning to use a BIOS with integrated EFI driver.

If you have some spare time pls update your original 00_OC ANANDTECH.rar tutorial, it´s a masterpiece for sure!

Regards tio! ;)

Ah so you're the one who originally wrote that!?
That was awesome of you :D

Unfortunately as variables in NVRAM are used it may not only be tied to a specific BIOS but also a specific version.

Darn, so does this mean it may not work on all Asrock boards?

I'm still looking for info on anyone that may have done this with a 2696v3 in an ASRock X99E-ITX/ac with most recent ASRock Bios. (UBU says the Bios is an Aptio 5 Platform).

Thanks in advance!

And... as stated previously... you're running Dual Channel. You need to be Quad Channel to feed all those cores at those speeds....

I populated all the slots & now the CPUS are running in quad channel. I only saw a small boost in cinebench. The other benchmarks like x264 encode, chess engine etc were practically the same or the differences were negligible.

Hello guys, I can't seem to be able to strip the CPU microcode out of ASUS X99 Deluxe II BIOS ver. 1701 (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/X99-DELUXE-II/HelpDesk_BIOS/). I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could do that for me. Thank you!

Edit: looks like a was able to do that myself after all.

Edit: is there your bios without microcode or with ffs
