What condiments do you prefer in your ham sandwich?

The difference between really good ham, as above, and crappy, tasteless, water-bulked ham is a raging river so wide the staunchly conservative, crap yellow mustard clan can likely not comprehend, let alone cross. 😉
Well now if we're going to talk about country ham then putting condiments on it would be sacrilegious. I thought we were discussing city ham.

Ham sammich?

YELLOW mustard, mayo (or Miracle Whip, which ever is in the fridge) romaine lettuce, and cheese...American, swiss, pepper jack, what ever is in the fridge)..and ham...lots and lots of ham. Don't really care what kind of bread...white, wheat, rye, sourdough...

You and IronWing need to break Wonder bread together.
 
Was is das "English mustard"?

I'm way too into mustard and have never heard of it.

Comes as a very fine, yellow powder and you mix it with roughly equal parts water 10 minutes before using.
You can get pre mixed stuff but it's not a patch on the powder.

Love this stuff. My Grandma used it all the time when I was a kid and I've loved it ever since.

What do I need a kettle for?

Look, the recipe distinctly calls for "eye of the newt." That's one whole eye. You can't even get "eye of the newt powder" in modern England anymore.

You see where I'm going here? If you put an entire newt eye in something smaller than a cauldron, it throws off the delicate balance. Hmph! You might as well be trying to get away with substituting lark's vomit! 🙄

Wait, kettles? Oh, we have them here in abundance, electric or stove top.

My kettle/cauldron confusion? It went from bad to Norse:

The word kettle originates from Old Norse ketill "cauldron".

I think the kettles went into hiding, after repeatedly being labeled black by a bunch of charred pots.

OP: Inglehoffer makes a sweet hot mustard with habaneros that is condiment perfection.

Both waves of mostly what's good have come from the Indian subcontinent.

First wave through Empire: chutney, piccalilly, Worchestshire sauce, Mulligatawny soup, etc.

Second wave through Commonwealth immigration: Take out curry shops.
 
I eat a ham or turkey sandwich nearly every day. Try a dash of oregano on your sandwich, you will be pleasantly surprised how good it makes the sandwich taste.

Indeed, best things to eat in the U.K. are, in personal order of preference: indian, chinese, and pub food.

My friend got me some green chile jam from New Mexico, and it was the bomb. :awe:
