What component do you think depreciates in value fastest?

We've all experienced it.... the bright shiny new toy you bought begins being sold on the trading forums for half the price you bought it for a month ago, and by next year, it's not worth enough when you sell it to buy dinner at McDonald's for yourself with the proceeds.

So which component do you think depreciates the fastest in value?

either CPU or video card, if you buy the top of the line..in 6 months that P4 going for $600 will be under $200...of course the Geforce3 Ti500s will be $100-150 in 6 months..

 

[Double Trouble]

The CPU not only goes down in price quickly, but the performance also get eclypsed rather quickly. If you buy a solid mobo or hard drive, the price may drop over a few months, but it won't be blown out of the water by a hotshot new model in a short time.

Memory goes down in price as well, but at least you get a tangible benefit from it.

I say CPU. I got an 1800+ at XPP, and thankfully, I traded it for a 1600+ along with some $. The 1800+ was $220 then, and now, it's $145. The 1600+, however, was $120 then, and $110 now. Flagships drop in price really fast.

In addition, DVD burners are also declining in value quite rapidly.

CPU, and Video card. Fortunately I have my American Express Blue card. It has saved me a boat load of money...

definetly video cards... 6 months = about 50% extra performance on the top end.

CPUs can't get much lower, or the chip companies will be losing money! I'd say Video cards depreciate faster. They seemingly come out with a new one every month.

I think the CPU because they're constantly making new ones. Once you get a "new" processor, a faster one comes out a few months later.

I say CPU too... new CPUs are coming out every month or so, and prices keep dropping...

but new GPUs only come out every couple of months...

They come out with newer faster ones and the old ones drop quickly.
