Does anyone know? And what has replaced the Jeep Cherokee? I tried google, didn't work. Thanks.

The first Jeep was not made by Willy's. It was designed and built by a couple of engineers in just 40 days. But the Army awarded the contract to build the Jeeps to Willy's.

I can't remember those guys names, though.

Bantam made the first Jeep. Willys Overland won the contract, beating out Bantam and Ford.

The Liberty replaced the Cherokee in North America. It is still the Cherokee everywhere else

Here's a pretty good brief history of the military jeep.

Bantam did have the first design and built about 3000 but couldn't supply the needed volume. Although Willy's design won the competition for the jeep, Ford built a lot of them using the Willys design.
