What companies does GM own?

as in the car company "GM" or General Mills "GM"......actually they're prolly the same company 😛

<< They have an interest (dunno if it's a controlling interest) in Subaru as well. >>

10%

they have a joint venture with toyota to produce matrix/vibe amongst other things

they used to own hughes, which owns directv for the moment. they probably still have part of it. part of EDS too i would think. delphi is also something they probably hold part of.

Did GM buy Buick, Pontiac, Chevy, and Olds or did they form them from the start?

I always wondered what was the point of having Buick and Olds..they should have one or the other since they both seem to meet the same needs, atleast in the past. Now Olds cars are more for younger buyers <Alero, Intruige -- both which are pretty good cars>

Why do you ask? I don't like answering a question without knowing the motive behind it. You might be an Al Qaeda terrorist who is trying to target the GM corporate infrastructure by enlisting the superior intellect of ATOTers.

olds is older than gm and gm is getting rid of the brand as soon as the useable lives of all the models end. they'll keep selling the bravada for another 4 years or so. after that... no more olds.

I think most of those were independent automakers at one time or another. Did you know Cadillac used to be part of Ford? :Q

Buick
Cadillac
Chevrolet
EV1
GMC
GM Certified Used
Gm Network Fiat
GM Network Fuji/Subaru
GM Network Isuzu
GM Network Suzuki
Holden
Hummer
Oldsmobile
Opel
Pontiac
Saab
Saturn
Vauxhall

^^^^ All of the above.

You missed a couple:
Hughes electronics (which is direct tv)
ACDelco
Onstar
apparently they also have a bank, and deal in real estate.

in case you're interested:

chevy is supposed to be the affordable family brand
pontiac is affordable youth brand
saturn is even more so than pontiac
cadillac and buick have ended up being the higher priced conservative vehicles, which is why they will merge
and oldsmobile is being repositioned to be a higher end youth targeted vehicle.
