She's getting a shiny new Dell as a HS graduation gift. It's a P3-1GHz, 128 ram (why must Dell charge an extra $110 to upgrade from 128 to 256? uh... no), 20 gig, SB Live, GF2MX and all the trimmings.

Up to this point the family computer has been a K62-400/128/Compaq-crapmaster-4000.

She's enjoyed all sorts of adventure games (ex: Hero's Quest series), strategic games (Civ2 and its successors), and really enjoyed The Sims.

Does anyone have any ideas of other, newer and more demanding games she could play now on her new computer? I'm thinking Midtown Madness 2 for starters. I'm sure you guys have some ideas. Thanks.

...I'm thinking netcam and a way to earn some extra cash for college :)

Actually, I think lots of females (at least the ones I know) enjoy games like the new Myst III, Riven, etc, etc...but for adventure games, I would say Everquest would a great game for her to play.

Wow, a game playing chick...what's her number? ;)

Don't give her midtown madness if she's the type to play Civ2. If you are just trying to show graphics, sure...but has she played Age of Empires: The Age of Kings? :D

Oh yeah, and tell her to sign up here! :D

You guys are all terrible :disgust:

Yep, AOE2AOK works fine on the other computer and she's already played that. Maybe Earth2150 (IIRC that's the name) which I got and was impressed with would be good. Or B&W? Not sure how B&W would run wih a MX card.

Is BG2 a monthly fee? Hmm.. maybe she'd go for Diablo2.

<< Is she cute? >>

Cmon mztykal, that's a very geeky response for someone who's non-geek :p

As far as the games go, get her something that'll occupy her time well, if she enjoyed The Sims, she might like the time-consuming games. You know her personally, so you'll know what kinda games she likes - do you think something like Black & White would be fun for her? Midtown Madness 2 sounds like a good idea too. If all else fails, DL Scorched Earth for her, can't go wrong with Scorch :D

(don't forget about emulation either, SNES games can be fun too :))

I got an Idea. Give her a bestbuy gift certificate and let her choose her own games.

"Turn of the fun. Best Buy."

Sh;es been sharing the old computer with 4 other siblings, so anything that takes a huge amount of time is fair game. Keep the valid suggestions coming, please!

I would go with Age of Empires or something like Baulders Gate.

Both great games.

Uhh, I hope you work for them or something. Otherwise, you're gonna need an explanation as to why you typed their slogan here :p

Can't go wrong with diablo 2, it should be right up her alley (adventure game w/o much thinking. A 128mb stick of crucial ram would be about the cost of a game too.

The girls I talk to all LOVE The Sims. Good time waster there. Black and White ran on my TNT1, so it should run on an MX.

There's a new game coming out from the AOE team, except in 3D. Age of Mythology, which looks beautiful from the screenshots I've seen. No idea on the release date.

It really depends what type of games she likes, but I would reccommend 2:
The Sims
American McGee's Alice

The Sims is very popular and appeals to both male and females, all ages.
Alice has a female as the lead character and unlike Tomb Raider she isn't portrayed as a bimbo. I know a girl who likes Alice a lot.

Edit: Oops, I didn't read your post carefully. I see she already likes The Sims, so I guess she might like one of the 2 Sims Expansion Packs out.

If she likes to play on-line have her try "Myth 2 - Soul Blighter" its an awesome game, single player but mostly online against others and best of all the online play is FREE and they run great servers.

Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale, Everquest(monthly fee), Anarchy Online(fee)

Has she tried starcraft?
that is a classic and I have been playing for 4 years and it hasn't gotten old.

Counter-strike is good if she wants to try an FPS

Oh yeah if they haven't already bought the comp i would suggest they get u to build them one, A 1.2 GHz DDR Tbird system with GF2 Pro could be had for less i would presume unless it is a laptop

If she likes adventure games try 'The Longest Journey'.

The play is typical of any 'Quest' game but the story is more interesting than most. I'm not into adventure games but a couple of my female friends played everyday until they finished it. The main character is a female and half the dialogue in the first couple chapters has to do with relationships, dating, etc. - definitely geared towards girls.

the simes, roller coaster tycoon.

yasha - no no... the best thing is a 19 year old hotie/cutie (i've found lots of women can't be both) that is not a lesbian, she just likes having sex with women, thats all.
