<< I still say Silver or at least Gray see?
granted, the Shelby gives the regular mustang a few extra (and sexy) curves, but I still say one of those colors :)
>>

hey, its "elanor"!
:p
at the risk of getting flamed to death, what is the functionality of those thread like things on the hood? those things that go from the hood to the front grille?

Paint that car anything but the original color and you will drop one hell of a lot of value to that car. I bought my 65 Impala back in 1986 for $1800. All 100% original, no rust, no tears or stains in the interior. The exterior was re-painted with the original paint. After blowing the engine with 221,000 miles I sold her for $1200 to a guy that had the same car.... Perfect engine and frame. Bad interior and body. The only reason he bought it was that it was all original and repainted with the original paint. Otherwise that car would have gone into a junk yard or maybe gotten $200-500 for "parts".

This isn't just a car. This is an American classic. Please treat her with the respect and dignity she deserves. If you want a car that you can paint a funky color and modify it, buy something else and sell that 65 stang.

It's famous and it's a classic because it's a great car and it's gorgeous...I think he'd be giving it more respect by keeping it running and on the road (with or without original parts) and keeping it looking good (with or without original paint) so that future generations can see it.

If you had used after-market internals and that other guy had used after-market body parts, your kids and my kids would have been able to see another "American classic" on the road

b0mbrman,
My kids have seen "my" car driving around still today. The guy in my hometown stripped every panel, door, hood and trunk and stripped out my seats and put it on and into his chassis with his original 327 engine. The value and win-win situation was that he had the exact same model (exterior/interior) as mine. A tear still comes out of my eye when I go home and see her zipping down the street.

Believe me when i say i plan on taking care of this car, because i do but if i do decided to paint this car a different color i dont see how i would be doing anyone a disservice. It is my car so i feel i have the right to paint/modify it any way I want althought i have no real plans for modifications. Like i said in the beginning lemme get my hands on a Digital Camera and i will take some before pics then whenever I get this puppy running ill take some after pics then we can all sit in awe of my purty lil stang :)

You owe it to yourself and the car to at least talk to some collectors in your area. Do you reallly want to blow 3-7k just because you don't like red?

Wouldn't hurt. Maybe you've got a limited edition or something and you don't know it... :)

Hood pins. The hoods were held down with cotter pins and those wires kept the pins from being lost when removed. You have to remember that these were race cars. Shelby did not make family cars. You can't trust the standard latches on hoods at 160 mph.

While it's your car, and can do anything you want with it...it's true it will be worth less if it's not the factory color.

You also ought to consider that in changing the color, you will need to paint door jams, under hood and trunk lid, etc. Much more money, or time if you're doing it yourself.

Can't blame you for wanting to change the color though, I've never been a big fan of red cars either. It fades to pink too fast.

black and silver look great, too.

As far as keeping it the original color, is it all original otherwise? If your engine has been replaced at some point, you may as well go ahead a do whatever you want. If you want it to retain maximum resale, keep it original. If you want it to be your baby, do whatever you want.

<== misses his '67 :(

We bought it THINKING everythign was original we got it from the son of the original owner and everything is original EXCEPT the driver side door.

god i have no idea what color i want to paint this car.

I have no plans on selling it either so all this talk of money is pretty much irrelevant.

This car will definitly be my baby, That Blue and Green Mwilding linked to is awesome!

But like L vis said it will cost more to paint it a completely different color.

sigh so confused, its narrowing though, that original Blue, Dark Green, Stick with Poppy Red.

dang do i like that green though :)

Here's the whole rainbow on one page. I think you're lucky that yours is red. I'd be torn between that and the Nightmist Blue if I were buying one new. If I owned a used red one that needed paint, I wouldn't think twice about keeping it red. It's so classic!
