No. Supposedly it takes half an hour or something like that to get good low-light vision, for most people. It takes maybe 2-3 minutes for me. But, I am sensitive to bright lights, can be nearly blinded by LED and SilverStar headlights, and the new cold LED street lights hurt my eyes (all are bluer than late-day sunlight).

In your example of what colour is the guy in the picture, yeah he's a black guy.

Youre supposed to be looking at the picture not searching out the guy/dress IRL and finding out what race/colour he/it is.

The point is that youre looking at the picture without context and examining that with respect to other peoples experience of the picture.

The interesting thing is that some people are seeing false colours in the picture (black/blue) and some people aren't. More interesting is that some people (we'll call them weirdos for brevity) can change between both.

If that really is black and blue then that camera really sucks lol. Or maybe it's the photographer. 😛

I guess it's a reflective black, like silk or something, and the background might have some gold colour to it.

I didn't say anything about searching out the guy/dress IRL. I immediately identified the dress as blue and black when I first saw the photo, based on the context of other features of the photo.

But in all seriousness, I still find it interesting that people saw (and still see?) white/gold especially when the backgrounds of web pages are much, much closer to white as a reference. I can believe the perception thing with the brain - but I almost can't believe it when a baseline white is present around the image everywhere on the page. The fact it still happens is kind of amazing and does have me wondering just how different each of us may be seeing the world around us. This goes beyond those basic color perception tests that everyone sees wrong consistently.

I can see both now. If I cover up the bottom half then I can see white and gold. If I cover up the top half then I see black and blue. The big patch of gold on the top is too prominent to see as black or washed out black. It is quite a neat brain twister image.

Same here. More than blue though it's a light blue and the gold mostly appears on top while the bottom stripes are a darkish indefined color (brown of sorts?).

In the three image version I still see the blue tint even in the whitest one, blue and black definitely in the dark one.

So much pissed at all those polls with just gold-white or blue-black: it's neither! Are people just being involuntary pulled into on or the other front, because of no other choice?
This is like a blue vs red war when the truth is purple...
 
Been looking at this on and off yesterday and today on my phone and my laptop. I always see gold and white with a slight blue tint. Can't see the black and blue even after looking at the altered pics.

With color sampling, it turns out it really is gold and blue-tinted white. So that is what it actually is (the picture that is, not the actual dress). Those black and blue people must have weak minds that are easily deceived by context. The flip floppers probably have some brain defect. The gold and white people see it as it actually is. We are superior.

For me it is more calling it white.. I see the blue to it, but it's like taking a picture with an off white balance. My brain says it should be white.

Actually when I use dropper tool to sample the pixels RGB B >> R or G; therefore blue pixels are showing brighter than red or green: even red-green makes white or gray;

The dress is turning on blue pixels.

Anyone could create a robot to process images and analyze them on a pixel-by-pixel basis for color contents. It takes a higher level of thinking, one characteristic of being an independent human being, to look beyond the literal. You are proof that autistic people have robotic personalities. I bet you're the type that would do well in college number-crunching calculus or rote-memorization biology but complain about "word problems" on an exam, because they presented problems in a way that a computer could not immediately answer without human deconvolution.

Actually saying just white or maybe a light blue tint is really strange when the actual color is very similar to the Anandtech forums colors, you know the color of the bar above your very posts, the bar on top of the pages etc...

As a reference, using RGB values extracted from a screenshot and this very site:

some forums colors:

three values for the dress:

(last set is from the whitest spot I see in the light blue color)

Hope you get the idea. For comparison the color of the quote posts or the area that displays your username is 225 228 242 yet i still see the light blue tint in that, so a larger difference in values like the sets above makes it clearly apper blue to me.

About the gold argument instead... well the color is goldish above but below the RGB shows some kind of dark gray or brown, not much space for golden color like the inverted colors image has.
Really just try and invert the colors in paint to see a real gold and white version.
