I see a lot of rides around here with upgraded brakes or at least some new rotors. Thing is they are usually shiny like they were just machined. They spend so much cash on this stuff yet have probably worse performance than the car has stock in braking.
I don't think many bed in their brakes at all.
It took me a while to find a long enough road to do the 80mph stops repeatedly and not have to stop completely until cool down. When I was done you could definitely smell the brakes, if it were night I bet they'd glow a bit
.
I have been bringing my car in for simple maintenance lately as it's just not worth it to do oil changes when the dealer will do it for $19.95 and even top off fluids, give some of the hinges and suspension a shot of lube, etc. Plus the benefit of getting my car on a lift to do my own inspections.
Anyway, I had it in and two of the mechanics noted I was one of the first of their 'newer' customers to actually have rotors that looked like I did a proper bed-in. They asked where did I take it...
If anyone wants a procedure: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm
I had a different one I used from Baer...but that one seems more accurate.
