AU (AnandTech University), but if I don't get in I'm going to take a couple classes at the local JC so I can be a moderator.

I'm a frosh at Caltech. Applied to Lehigh, Carnegie Mellon, RPI, Stevens, Princeton & Caltech. Got in everywhere but Carnegie (/rude). Loving it so far here at 'tech. If you have the smarts to get in here, you will almost definitely enjoy yourself. Lots of fun stuff happening, great community (only ~900 undergrads), challenging course material and plenty of pranks to go around.

Caltech > MIT. Nicer community, less stuck up people, and Pasadena >> MA.

That's funny, since some people may consider you stuck up for belittling MIT.

/shrug. It's the truth. Sitting in the info session at MIT there was just a smug attitude the admissions rep had as he talked to all the 100 or so MIT hopefuls that were there that day. Same with the tour guides.

When I visited 'tech, we drove up to this cozy little house that was the admissions office at the time (has since moved) and the admissions people there really seemed down to earth, got personal attention since there were only like 3 families there, got to go through all the houses and meet people on the tour, etc. It just seemed like a much more caring, pleasant environment compared to the smugness of the admissions guy at MIT.

Edit: Also, you obviously have to take this w/ a grain of salt since this wasy my experience and yours might be very different. If you've visited both campuses and talked with people from both places I think you'd agree with me though. There's also a natural rivalry between 'techers and MIT kids, so it's my job to make fun of MIT when I can :p.

If you are planning a science- or tech-related degree, I advise you to stick around in the east side. :)

Also, don't forget to check out the latest rankings at MacLean's magazine. Believe it or not, I found that their assessment of my school corresponds surprisingly well to how I found UBC.

A few of yall said "I'm a frosh blah blah blah". What's a frosh? Is that a freshman? I don't think I've ever heard that term. Maybe it's something new. I graduated 10+ years ago.
