I believe I'm going to be going into the network management/IT field (what's the proper name for this?)

What colleges on the eastern US coast are best for studying network management and computers in general?

Thanks :)

For networking and IT related fields USUALLY the major you want to go into is Management Information Systems or MIS. Depending on the school the major may be slightly different. Maybe just Infomation Systems, maybe Information Technology... At my school MIS was a major in the School of Business, don't know if its that way everywhere. You can also look for a Computer Science major with a concentration in Information Technology. Don't know of any schools offhand that do the Comp Sci major with a concentration in IT.

If you don't mind the programming a general CompSci degree can usually get your foot in the door for a Networking / IT field position as well, but the classes for CompSci are usually less related to IT and more related to programming.

Dont know of any good schools for MIS offhand though, sorry!

I was thinking about going out west (Arizona actually) but I decided I'd rather stay on the east coast. Any other opinions? :)

no brand name school offer IT as a major... its something that you acquire from technical skools ... not universities...

If you want information regarding college, I'd highly suggest speaking to an informed individual such as an academic advisor. If you have anyone around you (relative, friend's relative, etc) that works at a college, I highly recommend you speak to that person and inquire thus. You'll find the best and most informative and useful information from those people. Don't rely on people from AnandTech. Information varies from place to place.
