Weighted GPA is bulls**t. Everyone has a rocket average, but the courses are so filtered it really means nothing. Remember, my school offers ZERO AP COURSES, NO CLUBS, and basically NO SCHOOL SPONSORED activities.

I'm in ASB (A.k.a Leadership). Hopefully my API will seduce the officers. Hopefully they consider schools with higher levels of academic efficiency than prison public schools with a thousand dumb kids who make the mediocre ones look insanely intelligent.

I fail to see how a "highly academically concentrated" high school has no AP courses and allows no clubs or school-sponsored activities. Unless you go to Stuyvesant, I don't see how there's really anything you should be proud of about your high school.

API isn't a metric used by college applications. Do your research.
Some of those "prison" public schools happen to produce great thinkers too.

I went to one of your so-called "prison" public schools with 3000 students. Unforunately, that "prison" public school also happens to be a National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished School.

i just told you how. Get to know your teacher on a one-on-one level as opposed to simply in the classroom.

I know them on a one-on-one level.

This isn't 3k public school with 300kids/teacher.

I see my teacher's every day, and talk to them about things often not related to school. My English teacher elected me as "student of teh unit" which was kinda ghey but I guess relates to your on-one comment.

I also talk to my principal every day.


But again, someone told me UC's could give less of a s**t about recommendations...

their forums seem more aimed for questions like yours, and they are filled with angsty teens/parents worrying about the same things. The demographic here is ususally quite a bit past that stage.

Berkeley was 98% I believe, second ONLY TO MIT. UCLA and UCSD by the same token have a >90% of their student body being the top 10% of their class.

EVERY serious applicant who applies to the top UC's has similar, if not BETTER stats than yours.

More than one person has told you that UC cares nothing about recommendation letters or legacy. Also, legacy typically only factors if somebody in your family attended a school for undergrad, so your dad's graduate degree at UCI doesn't mean a thing. A friend of mine whose parents both went to Harvard grad (thats where they met and got married) didn't get into Harvard for his undergrad, but he went to MIT and is now a graduate student at Caltech.

Well I think I'm going to get into UCSD. Remember, my school is financially limited - I would be taking AP courses now, which would have upped my GPA to 4.20 according to charts. However, I have heard U.C approved honors courses increase GPA.

Anyways, my schools API score will hopefully compensate for my "unimpressive GPA", as that truly measures difficulty of text. These schools are fully aware of how easily high scores are handed out.

Plus, I'm going to help out with the SD and Jewish film festival, probably do some cinematic assistance (a.k.a technical theatre) among various facilities across the county, and by that I should have my SAT up and my GPA leveled out.

Oh, and I should be in the top 15% of my high school grade. However, consider my entire grade has scored above the advanced range for the STAR tests, something most high schools cannot claim.

In other words, very few retards to compete with. Considering I missed 70% of all prior education, I think I'm doing pretty damn well. If Jack Black can get into UCSD, so can I.

Also, to put in perspective just how resource-starved my school is, we don't even have hot lunches.

Don't universities take a select number of students from each high school to increase diversity? In other words, aren't students from the same high school mostly competing against each other to get into college?

I went from mostly B's in freshman year with 1 honors class - Orchestra (Was forced into it - I don't even play an instrument outside of orchestra)
to half A's/B's in sophmore year with 2 honors/AP classes - Orchestra, Singing group
to straight A's in junior year with 3 honors/AP classes - Orchestra, football, track (in spring), assistant officer of a club

Yeah. No Cal Poly, they don't have a film school. Definitely UCSC, but not UC Riverside. Bleh.

If I end up being rejected from all favored schools, I can always suck the dean of admissions d**k. That's one skill I definitely score well in.
