Unless you score at least 2000 on SAT, you wont have a shot at Berkeley, San Diego, or LA.

If you want a good engineering school, go to Cal Poly SLO.

I have friends who had 4.3 and 2100 and got rejects from all three I listed.

UC's are becoming incredibly tough to get in.

it's both ftw. although you don't have even have a hope of a shot at berkley unless your GPA is at least 3.6 (unweighted)

Im surprised no one has said this yet.

ITT is obviously the choice. They have more commercials

i thought ITT was not as good as UC, like UCs are more popularly known

Certainly, but a good SAT score takes no effort, whereas GPA is consistent attention over 4 years.

Harder still doesn't mean that your score is based on anything other than raw intelligence, whereas GPA requires you to turn assignments, prepare essays etc...
To further back up my point, I got around the average SAT score for a freshman at UCLA on the old SAT in 7th grade.

EVERYTHING. If you are serious about getting into the school of your choice or getting a great scholarship you must never slack.

Take classes that are tough, study study study and understand that the payoff is not the satisfaction of getting an A, but the long term benefit as it reflects on your college applications. Do extracurriculars, volunteer at a charity often, play a sport, have a hobby, etc...
Overall if you can be a nice person who has good grades and the ability to write a genuine college essay, you will be happy with the results. It is in your hands; go for it!

Extracurriculars are important. You got to remeber there are a lot of people with good grades, the question is how do you set yourself apart from them.

I got into Cal, UCLA, and UCSD with a 2090 on the SAT (damn writing section: 780/730/580 math/reading/writing), though the 800 Math II, 750 Physics, 720 Literature on SAT II helped.

I've been too lazy to calculate my GPA, but I only had 1 B and 3/4th AP classes senior year.

Now time to decide which to go to.

My advice, take hard classes and do well in them.
