What Codec?

I have had Windows Media Player refuse to open some audio and some video files due to not having the proper codecs? How do I find what codec a file requires? I just right clicked one file and went to properties and didn't see anything?

Thank you!

Install VLC player, it comes with its' own codec pack and plays just about evrything you can throw at it.

Thanks..... that did the trick... I downloaded all the codecs and Windows Media Player still didn't work. The VLC Player... no problems (good simple interface too).

Just say noes to teh codec packs. Another alternative to GSpot is MediaInfo. I have not used VLC in more than two years and while one does hear good things, Media Player Classic is not too shabby either ;)
