My buddy captured some simpsons episodes and encoded them into mpeg4 v3, I cannot seem to play them at all! What do I need? I have the divx 3.11 codec I think.

I also have some AVI's he captured and those wont play either, any ideas on those?

Thanks

You need the mpeg4 codec which should've come with your version of Windows Media Player. What version are you using?

try installing the microsoft windows media 8 codec.. it trys to autoinstall when I use media player to play a file that uses that codec

Do his episodes work on his PC? I had a simpson's episode that didn't want to work on my PC, so I used DivFix to rebuilt the index. Even though it was an mpg file (not AVI like a true divx movie) it fixed it and made it playable. Go figure...

The mpeg4 v3 codec is Microsoft's ASF or WMV but version 3. It's upto V8 now. Also v3 is the one that was hacked and made into divx which is in no way commercially legal. So it's either Divx, ASF or WMV. any of which WMP6.4 can run.

That's probably your problem, then. You may need another player you'll have to find the codec in stand alone somewhere, but I don't think they offer it that way.

That is not his problem. I use WMP6.4 and I can play every video clip I get with it.

Simpsons episodes? Suuuurrrre. We all know that you really mean "p0rn" when you said "Simpsons". 😉
