Hi, I am new to this and I would like some advice please.

I have two subnets 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24 located in the same location.
What i want to do is to use a router to connect the two subnets together, so that there can be communications between the two.

I need a router that has a high bandwidth as there will be a large amount of data flowing between the two.

What do you recommend and in what configuration.

Cheers and thanks in advance

3550 switch would do just fine. It's layer 3. Or a low end router like a 1700/1800 series.

Edit: And welcome to the forums. :)

Layer 3 switch definitely. while a router is capable, you have indicated a "large amount of data flowing" and depending upon the amount of traffic, a router may be overrun by the bandwidth requirement. BTW, the 3550's have been disco'd and the recommended replacements are the 3560 family.

Thank you sll for your advice. It looks like a 3 layer switch will do what I need it to do.

Thanks again for the advice
