What charity would/do you donate to?

<< If I had the money, I would donate to either the Red Cross or the charity that keeps the music programs in schools (I forgot the name). >>

Red Cross is overflowing with cash right now, it's local charities and united way that are hurting because people gave all their extra money to Red Cross and 9-11 charities.

I donate to:
- Northwest Harvest (food bank program)
- Seattle Times Fund for the Needy (goes to a bunch of Washington state charities)
- UM-St Louis alumni fund (I received a couple of alumni merit scholarships as an undergrad so I'm helping to fund someone else now that I have a good job)

I like the idea of the music programs fund, I should look into that. I'd also give to an environmental charity if I ever take the time to find one that isn't off the deep end.

Glenn1 is right on target. Toys For Tots is the most tightly run, efficient charity on the planet. They should be the model for every other charity.

I don't donate to charity, but I do support causes I believe in. I am a member of the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation). link

I did donate to the Red Cross right after 9/11..

Not to discount anything you said about toysfortots, but 2/10 = 20%😛 I'm sure that they are a wonderful orgagnization, but If I were to donate to any charity, it would probably be the Sierra Club.

Moose, he said 2/10 of a percent...or 0.2%

The Sierra Club has overhead in the 35% to 40% range. Besides, they are not a charity. Charities help.

Amnesty International
National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty
Freedom from Religion Foundation
The National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League
The CATO Institute

I prefer donating to libertarian-minded causes instead of making direct transfer payments (which the federal government seems to think is its job). I could probably "adopt" a few more when I get around to it.

We donate to our church, wife supports a child somewhere in South America, local homeless shelter, various one time things that come up like Christian radio, local classical radio, and the "Amigaman wants a new computer toy" fund.
