Low self discharge NiMH batteries and a smart charger. Good for weeks between charges, and they can sit in your controller for months and still hold a charge.

Honestly, it's not really any different from the rechargeable battery packs you can get for the 360 except they last longer and are more reliable.

Yup, this is what I do. I use AA Eneloops and a charger.

I even 'super-conditioned' mine and they still hold a full charge 2 years later. the more full charge to zero charge cycles you do the better they charge. After they won't function in the controller anymore I swap them intomy remotes where they last another 2 weeks or so. I learned this trick from racing RC cars where we would take the dead batteries and hook them to a series of small flashlight bulbs to such as much juice out of them as possible. Then when you recharge them they will take a full charge. if you recharge them say when they get half full instead, which is called "topping off"over time the batteries will take less and less of a charge. This is called "battery memory", and why some people say the rechargeables die quickly.

Started off with 3 of the Microsoft batteries and the big AC powered battery charger. Thus far 2 of the batteries have died and I've switched those to eneloops. Once the last one kicks it they will all be eneloops.

I have an "InCharge" inductive charger I got for something like $15 on Woot about a year and a half ago. It included their proprietary lithium polymer batteries (which work fine and are lighter in weight than the MS ones) and two slots. I just drop the controller into it and it charges.
