using like 90% ranger stuff 10% necro. I think I'm the only ranger without a pet too.

What sort of ranger stuff are you actually using? My skills seem really lackluster.

Well let me give you some background. I rarely play a game more than 5 hours. Guild wars has lasted 10. From this perspective, it is worth buying. However, for those of you looking for serious longevity... I'm still not sure.
It isn't really a good idea to compare it to WoW. The style of play is very different. I see it as a nice breath of fresh air after playing WoW a lot. It seems like a lot less pressure, a lot more about the environment and experience, and a lot of things are very interesting, new or not often used ideas. Whether these ideas ultimately lead to a lasting experience is where I am uncertain. I'd say it's mostly a cooperative RPG and fun PvP system with some mmorpg elements that add additional fun. My main complaints stem around not understand half of what's going on since it is dissimilar to most games I've played recently.
I have a necromancer/mesmerizer. I chose mes as a kind of afterthought to try to be unique, but as it turns out is is an extremely fun and complementary combination. I just got a necro skill that damages people when I put a hex/curse on them, and I just got a mes curse that damages people when they attack. Basically I can kill enemies with debuffs now.

I hate empathy. It's the only reason I leave a spot open in my skills bar for distracting shot. ok, not the only reason, but it's up there.

is that the one where you get dmged everytime you attack (with your weapon)? hehe it's a pain but I just use stone daggers. Rapid firing spell that costs only 5 and deals pretty well dmg depending on the armor type.

If it ever does get by, I counter with troll unguent(regen +5)... and make sure every shot does as much dmg as possible.

what the hell is the point in guildwars pvp? People just start new characters automatically max lvl? What about your equipment? What do you gain? What do you lose?
meh it can't compare to fps, wow pvp speaks for itself and without 100% lootable corpses guildwars sounds little better, if at all.Originally posted by: Anonemous

fame ,, your own guild hall, bragging rights...
just like any online team game like CS, BF, HL2,WoW...
Your char starts at max lvl, I think you get standard equipment (i'm not sure since I haven't made a pvponly character). You don't lose much, prolly your pride after you get creamed by those crazy clans from Korea/Europe/US...
Well that helps I suppose, but not much. I'm basically saying that in this type of game and with no rewards or penalties beyond pride and a guild house straight player vs player holds zero appeal for me.Originally posted by: torpid
You can hire henchmen in Guild Wars to complete your team. Not sure if that is what you are asking.

That said, I have enjoyed dota (5v5 single unit rts style pvp, unqiue skills, combinable items, etc) for a long time now. I just can't see guildwars pvp being any good at all. I think dota has such appeal for me because each side has uncontrollable ai units that are there to help you. Guildwars pvp is players only right? Without the ai element of it I think dota would suck too.
I suppose battlegrounds in wow could be cool with the ai having such a large role, but I doubt i'll be coming back to find out.
