Michael Jackson was my generation's Elvis. Probably Tom Petty for me.
Michael Jackson was a great entertainer, but not even in the same galaxy as Elvis as a singer.

As to the original question, John Ritter comes to mind. Also Roy Orbison and even Elvis. Roy Orbison was in his fifties I think, but still that was before his time IMO, and he endured so much loss in his relatively brief life. John Candy and Chris Farley made me sad, especially Candy. Also John Belushi. He was a bit over the top for me sometimes, but very talented. I loved his skits on SNL.

Sean Taylor - he was a game changer and the Redskins have simply not have the safety position solved since he was murdered. He was a once in a generation type of player that was in his prime when he was killed.

Notorious BIG - I can only imagine how many great albums he would have put out there. He only had 2 full albums out when he was killed and they both are 2 of my favorite albums of all time.

None. Celebrities mean nothing to me.

Pretty much how I feel too. I never got the obsession with celebs. To me, they are people with jobs, and are doing their jobs. An actor or other celeb does not mean more to me than a construction worker or bus driver or any other job. They all have a job to do, and do it, and get paid for it. Not to bring down celebrities, it's just how I see it. Why do we glorify them so much? Heck I kinda wonder if they feel the same way themselves. Constantly having people stalking you or wanting your autograph or flipping out when they see you probably gets old after a while. Or celebrity news talking about every little aspect of your life. I can't help but laugh when the news goes on for hours about what some celebrity said on twitter. Who freaking cares!

That said, if I had to pick one I think I'd go with Robin Williams, mostly because of how he died. Depression is a terrible thing, and it's really sad when people feel the only way is to take their own life. After going through depression myself recently I totally understand where they are at though and why they eventually off themselves but it's still really sad that they felt it was the only way. I seeked help and thankfully everything I did to fight it worked and I'm recovered but I imagine for a lot of people it's not as easy, especially those who have clinical depression. That or general anxiety disorder, or other similar mental health issues are horrible to live with.

None they are no more than other people that I do not know.

As of late I have an even lower regard for self absorbed celebrities.

It would be interesting to see what Alexander the Great could have done if he didn't die so early

Freddie Mercury
Every time they find something else he did, even if the recording is bad, his voice just plays right through.

None. I dont know any celebrities. they arent my friends. I'd rather be bummed about someone I know.
Like in 7th grade a girl killed herself and it made me think a lot about mortality and shit. She was a bitch but still, made me feel a little weird.

Dimebag Darryl (I met him the night before he was killed)
Heath Ledger (I have no doubt that TDKR would have been way better with him in it)

I like a bunch of people who died before I was born, like Buddy Holly and Andy Kaufman, but thinking about it perhaps their legacy wouldn't be as great (to me) if they were still alive, so I guess I can't be completely bummed out by it. Their death merely boosted their legacy.

Only ones I really care about would be Robin Williams and Anthony Bourdain, and by care, I mean the world is a lesser place without them and they were genuinely good people who provided incredible entertainment.

Robin Williams. Guy was a genius, and we could always use more humor in the world.

Musically definitely Tom Petty. That one really came out of left field.
