I have and old samsung flippy thing. The battery barely lasts anymore. I'm mainly looking for a phone with long standby battery life. I had an old PPC phone that lasted over a week without charging with about 1 hour talk throughout the week. And this was on a 5 year old battery. Why do all newer phones have such horrible battery life? My family has LG, Moto, Samsung and they last like 3-4 days.

I was going to say iPhone, but then I read you want battery life -- iPhone lasts like 10 hours lol

I'm a big fan of the Blackberry Pearl. Functionality of a Blackberry, size of a cell phone. I doubt you'll find one that lasts over a week anymore, but I can stretch my Blackberry battery a good bit if I don't talk often. You can set it to turn itself off while your asleep and reboot before you wake up, and there's a few other settings you can tweak to stretch out the battery that I haven't messed with. The SureType keyboard can take some getting used to, but I wouldn't trade it at all now that I'm used to it.

If you're looking for lower end, stay away from Moto, I've never had a Moto with a battery life I'd be happy to talk about in discussions about battery life.

I got an iphone, since sprint sero is worthless now. I had blackberry 8700 or something from work and that went days w/o charging, but that was w/o voice.

Because batteries cost money, and i can get new free phones because my att contract is almost up. I'll look into Motorola again. I'm kinda suprised the razor1 is still so expensive. I remember they were near free once. I actually got one the first week it came out, was like $500 because they didn't have the HTC blue angle yet. Trade it back a month later though.

the new fad seems to be the slider phones which I find funny becasue the Matrix had phones like that back in 1999 why wouldn't they have been popular then?

All batteries start to reduce their useful life with every use and recharge. Eventually all wear out. Yes - they cost money - so? The last phone I got was a Sanyo 7050 - awesome battery life. But - it's only a phone and nothing more.

Lithium ion and lithium polymer wear out no matter what. You can put them on a shelf and they will still wear out. They gradually just oxidize away.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery

A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. So an older battery will not last as long as a new battery due solely to its age, unlike other batteries. This drawback is not widely published.
