I found:

PNY CDR 700MB 80 MIN 12X Boxed Spindle 50 PACK

For $39.99 then there is a $20 mail in rebate with it.

Are these CDRs any good?

I think I heard of PNY CDRs as being kinda crappy...can anyone confirm this? ;)

Besides this deal, what are good brands of CDRs?

I am getting a Plextor 8/4/32 IDE BTW. :)

From what I've seen and experienced, the brand of CDR's are like the brand of floppies - it doesnt really matter.

Now maybe at a high 12x burning speed it will, but at 8x and below it doesnt matter too much. The money you save on the cheaper brands will cancel out the coasters, if you even have any.

Well, better discs are made with better dyes and color processes, resulting in longer shelf life. A lot of the cheapies don't overburn well, either.

what erasmus said... and i've found that cheap cdrs are slightly more fragile.... some even have that cheap ass film that scratches off with the touch... which does suck...

If you can name one I have used it. You wont see much diff while using them. Maybe an extra coaster here and there on some brands. Its down the road when th medium that was used will become a factor as to if the disk remains useable.

Ok, well this is good info...I know about green vs. blue dyes though. :)

Can I get your personal (from experience) favorite brands or brands you have had the most success with? :)

Thanks!

On my Yamaha, cheapo 4X CD-Rs are coaster makers. Mitsui seems the best for the price for me for three reasons. 1) You can get non-branded ones so there isn't any crap written on the disc. 2) The very light teal dye seems to work in most of my non-computer equipment. 3) Extremely reliable.

I've used Kodak, and one version refused to work in some CD players, but worked fine in computers. It was green. I've used about 10 other brands, and again, a couple of the el cheapo versions would just burn coasters at 4X.

I've used unmarked memorex, nashua, imation, pny, and sony cd-rs. All of them work fine exept the unmarked memorex because teh god damn top flakes off!. I had trouble using nashua disks in one of my friend's car stereos, but using a sony fixed the problem.

Go with Mitsui Gold for audio. You won't believe the difference. I burned the exact same songs to a Mitsui, a Verbatim, and a Memorex. No comparison. Mitsui is definitely un-suck. :)

Der, I don't get the audio comparison. It's digital. If it wrote the file succesfully it's a duplicate. There's no reason for it to sound different.

I've found that no matter what type (blue, green, gold, platinum) that the Ricohs are the best... never had 1 problem with them and they don't seem to scratch easily on either side.

zippy--The Plex will burn anything. For audio, it will then depend on the player(s). It you want absolute best possible compatibility, use Mitsui or Tayio Yuden.

I have used a lot of diferent brands and I kinda like the Sony and Philips cdr s, but they have a high price . I think there isn`t that many importance when you are using them in modern cd rom players. However if you intend to use themin your discman or car player, they can be picky about brands, I`d go for the Philips and Sony`s.

ps. the only ones I avoid are no-names and Arita`s (I have found on different systems and cd players that they are hard to read.)

I have heard that the gold dye is best. I just bought a 50 pack of Acer 12x gold at Best Buy for $39.

there is no such thing as gold dye.

it's probably an almost clear dye with a gold foil.

Those PNY disks are the only ones I have problems with in my Alpine car cd player. 99% of the time, the disk just will not start. Memorex, Kodak, Imation, and Verbatim have all been good to me.

IMO Traxdata's are the best, long life, and very good scratch resistance.
As for audio, its just up to the player, in a good quality player, any disc will sound exactly the same.

I swear, I didn't do a TTT just now...oh...nevermind. ;)

I'm trying to figure this out soon, I'm ordering my burner and CDRs in 4 hours so I kinda have to know. :)

Thanks to all who have helped and those who are about to help. :)
