It seem every night 2-3 hours before I officially get out of bed, I'm strucked by this strange hunger. It goes away when I go back to sleep and wake up 3 hours later. Why is that?

If it's lack of food, then why does it go away 3 hours later when I have not add any additional food to my stomache?

It's probably because your mind is on something else three hours later. When I wake up I'm usually starving, but there's no time for breakfast. By the time I'm done with my shower and in my first class, I'm not hungry anymore because I'm busy taking notes/falling back asleep. Of course, the hunger pangs return around lunch time, but they subsided in the meantime because I didn't think about food for a couple hours.

It happens to me too. Like usually at a certain time at noon I get really hungry, a bit after that, hunger goes away. I think because your body is used to eating something at that time or something.

uhm when you feel hunger, your body automatically adjust after awhile if you don't eat. your stomach shrivels to a smaller size so you feel less hunger or eliminate the hunger all together. that is why you shouldn't starve yourself for a big meal. you'll end up eating less due to the smaller stomach size.

and if you're asking technically why we feel hunger, my guess would be that the body isn't getting enuff energy or nutrients and is telling you to eat via your stomach.

I dunno what causes hunger, but the growling noises your stomache makes is annoying! (Especially in the middle of a lecture.)

Actually, expending energy causes your body to require food in order to create new energy for you to operate off of. Hunger pangs do not cause hunger, although they are caused by your body requiring energy :).

Every animal has several 'circuits', responsible for a range of functions, from sleeping to feeling hungry. It is possible that such a ciruit is 'activated' accidentally, like some people who are suffering from some kind of illness which causes them to fall asleep anywhere at the most impossible times.

Some kind of short-circuit :)
