What causes "crackly" music?

GasX

Lifer
My fiance was playing music on her stereo and the sound was crackling and going in and out. The one thing that I know causes this is loose speaker wires. I have checked all of the connections and they seemed fine, but my playing seems to have fixed the problem - but time will tell...

What else causes this?

btw, they are all CDs...

AFAIK, this would cause skipping not crackling...
😕

yup. sounds like a connection to me. it could be a bad one in the speakers or amp, on the internal part of the jacks, so that even though the wires were firmly connected on the outside, the jack itself was loose and you wiggled it into place again.

i _think_ that might happen if the speakers are unshielded and too close to other electrical equipment.

most likely a wire that needs gigling though.
