i was just wondering what case you guys are using..
i did have a thermaltake xaser 2 which i was very impressed with as the temps where great and with only modderate cooling (ie a falcon rock cpu cooler!!) i was getting near 30C from my 2ghz amd cpu (and overclocked amd xp1700 at stock voltages and idling sometimes less..) and case temps where idling around 20C.
i have seen a nice cheftec case, the model was a Scorpio i believe, but i was considering a thermaltake xaser 3, which has 2 more fans than the xaser 2 model, which i figured might be of some help with cooling it a little further.. am i correct or just mental?
i have heard that the cheftec models are easier to moddify so, i just just wondering what you guys thought.. im a little bit of an overclocker, but i like my temps as cool as possible..
oh and when is this new board setup thing coming in (BX or something i have been hearing about recently????) as i wouldnt be upgrading for a little while (depending on how long it takes for me to pay off my credit card :( bummer) i just wondered what anyone recommendations where.. i would be upgrading to something like a amd 64 cpu.. i need more power than my duron @ 733mhz is giving me!!
thanks for the help!

Antec Sonata .. quiet case is more important than temps to me. It's a blazing 90F in my room right now (San Francisco Bay Area). Indian summers so it's hot.

So right now .. 37 C system temp and 55 CPU

sonata isn't very good for airflow but it's holding it down.

it's not that hot in sf, well, at least not by ocean beach.

I'm using an antec 1040, some cheap case from svc, modded to take 2 120mm fans, and made an acrylic case.

edit: correction, just opened the window, it is hot here in sf.

At home, an older Antec SX1030B. At work, I was using an Antec Plus880 (looks like the SX835II) but recently switched to a fancy-lookin' Lian-Li PC-86.

The Lian-Li can hold a ton of drives for its size. The Antec/Chieftec clones are darn good cases and easier to work in most ways (IMO).

Compucase 6919.. it's like an Antec SX 1000 series, but without a door. I still can't figure out if it's produced by Chenming or not, but I'm leaning towards not. It's nearly identical, though, and is great for people who want an Antec SX1030 or whatever without a damn door over the drives.

that looks very close to the cheftec scorpio case, they both look rather cool, but i dont like the window on the side of the case.. i mean what would happen if you had a smoke signal.. you would have to call out a chimmeny sweep to clean it off !!! :)
but seriously, what do you guys look for in a case? i not so worried about weight as i dont go to lan parties etc, but if i was to move it around i do consider not busting my back for the pc a good thing :) airflow is always important to me, i like the xaser 2 case i had like i said, but the xaser 3 looked a little better as it had two more fans in the right place (another one on the side and one at the top) i read a review of cheftec's bx case and that also caught my eye, what does anyone think? any preferences?
thanks for all the replys so far! thanks!!! :)

Xaser II by Thermaltake at the house, Antec generic at the office, Antec generic at the kids room, just built an antec SLK2600AMB for a friend, it's much quieter than my TT. I'm thinking about adding koolance or other water cooling for OC and noise. Ultimately I want a Vapochill.

One day...

i wouldnt mind giving water cooling a go, but i do wonder whether or not thats a little extreme for what im using the pc for.. sure the noise and the temps would be great (some temps i cant believe!!) but at the end of the day i think that the xaser 3 or one of the cheiftec towers with good air cooling would be more than enough for me.. other than the fact that my girl friend really wouldnt like water with pc components!!!
at the moment the spire falcon rocks are doing ok, but i would prefer something a lot better for when i get my new rig, im not going to be buying something half arsed, im going all the way to make sure i get a good setup with no messing about within 3 months to upgrade some of it again!
i do wonder whats going to be happening over here whilst my credit card bill is being paid.... umm i wonder who will be winning the cpu/gpu race??? i just cant wait to see and find out... :)
thanks again for the help!

I've got an Enlight 7237 as my main PC; it's served me well over the years, and continues to do so. I think I had it all the way back when I had a KT133 chipset motherboard, maybe longer. Now it houses an Epox 8RDA+.
My second PC is a $35 (shipped) midtower I got on eBay; it was one seller who sold nothing but these cases. My only complaint about them is that they lack drive rails, otherwise, the case is the best generic thing I've ever used. No idea what the brand or model number is unfortunately.

well the cheiftec case looks like the scorpio case! but then to be honest, most cases seem to be looking like that.. or is that just me?
well, i think modding has to come into it, although i dont want led's or lights flashing all over the place.. i dont think thats very nice for my own personnal preference...
im still no closer to chosing between the two.. ahhh!!
