Hello,

I currently have the the Cooler master CM690 II (mid tower) which comfortably holds about 8 3.5" drives and the cooler master Cosmos II which with a little modification comfortably holds about 16 3.5" drives. I'm looking for a case that isn't as tall as the CM Cosmos II but holds about 12 3.5" drives. I need 12TB drives so I won't be using 2.5" drives. I do not have the space for external storage arrays - I need to replace my CM690 II models with a different case that holds a few more drives.

You will probably not fine a mid tower that can handle that many 3.5” hard drives. At least not anymore. A few years back when a mid tower gave you 3x5.25” slots you could probably have found a case that would have worked by using a converter bay to give you 5x3.5” slots in the 3x5.25” bays, but even in those cases it would have been hard to find one that had room for 7 internal slots as well.

I still have an original Cooler Master CMSTACKER somewhere (existed for a brief moment before they turned the Stacker into a gamer thing). Also bought the gimmicky "crossflow" fan.

I'm kind of surprised at how few cases have USB type C connections on the front - I might as well just buy one that came out years ago since so few have any real updates and most seem to be about water cooling and a couple if piddley spots for 2.5" drives.

I think I'l go with the FRACTAL DESIGN DEFINE R6 USB C - which supports 11 3.5" drives ( you have to buy 5 additional sleds at about $6 each)
