Is there a card that would be at least double if not more the performance of the car I already have for $200?

It is posted in my sig.

Thanks in advance for any opinions!

Acanthus, 6600GT will be a great choice, however, i don't think any of us will see them hit the streets in AGP flavor until november/december 🙁

So the best card currently would be the ATI 9800Pro.

What would be a good brand to go with and where can I get it for $200? Is it really going to double the performance of my comp or more?

Do you want faster doom 3 performance? Get a 6800 card.

Want Far Cry for Free? Do you want faster Far Cry performance?

You can try to pick up EVGA 6800 card for around $285 from Newegg.

If you want quiet operation, SplinterCell: Pandora Tomorrow and Prince of Persia, get
Leadtek 6800 for $270

The Fastest Cards of Summer 2004

If you find 9800Pro's performance good enough for you vs. 6800, then just pick that up for <$200 (ie. MSI 9800Pro from Newegg)

Okay here is another quesiton thank-u to all who have responded thus far.

how much better is the leadteck and radeon 9800 over my current card.

Also how much better is the 6800 over the radeon in terms of dollar to performance ratio?

Hard to beat a 9800 Pro at that price as far as what you can buy now. If you can wait a few months, the GeForce 6600GT is looking vewwy vewwy tasty...

The 9800 Pro is more than twice as powerful as your GeForce 4, but that doesn't mean performance will double. There's a hell of a lot more to a PC than just the GPU.

As for which gives you better bang for your buck, the 9800 Pro still slightly outdoes the 6800, unless you can find a deal...

But seriously, in a few months the 6600GT is coming, and if advance reports are accurate, it's going to put both the 6800NU and 9800Pro to shame in terms of $/performance.

for $249!! That is $20 less then the 6800 from banana pc the guy mentioned earlier and I don't know if this matters but it has double the ram as the 6800 from banana!

So what? For $200 the 6600GT supposedly outstrips them both, and with 128MB of DDR1 and a 128 bit memory bus to boot. Those are some serious handicaps, and it still 3dmarks 8000 in 3DM03, as opposed to the 6500 or so most people get with a 9800 Pro, depending on CPU and memory of course.

Now, granted 3dmark03 is only moderately relevant and we don't know anything for sure until we see some comprehensive reviews using real world games, but if an equally priced card can walk all over the competition like this, I see no reason why it doesn't offer better bang for the buck.

Well we can certainly deduct 2 things:

1. 6600GT will not be faster than 6800 because Nvidia can't have $200 card be faster than a $300 one.
2. 128bit memory implies that it's AA/AF performance will most certainly suck just like it did with the 5800 series.

But I guess for the $$$, it's a good card when it comes out. 3dmark03 doesnt really mean anything because a card can be fast without AA/AF enabled, but once you enable them, it could be a lot slower (ie. in Aquamark Nvidia cards spank ATI in regular mode, but once you enable AA/AF, things are much different). Nvidia cards have always been better using higher resolutions and ATI cards are better using AA/AF mode.

That is an awesome card gamesrfun.

Your next upgrade should be one of the below options:

1. Mobile XP => Overclock
2. A64
