I want either a FX5700U, a FX5900(normal), a R9700pro, or a R9800np, i want to spend as little as possible, but most bang for the buck, what do you recomend?

I'll have to see when newegg gets 9800np back in stock, only prob is it's 240, which i would prefer not to spend that much.

A 9800np would probably be the best, but you said that you didn't want to spend that much, so get a fx5900.

Bang for the buck, I would say this order:

9800np, FX5900(normal), R9700Pro, FX5700U

Editorializing...

9800np loses some luster if it can't be flashed to a pro, or doesn't overclock well, since the price is so high.
FX5900 can be had for a great price (~$210 Leadtek at Newegg), and most overclock easilty to Ultra speeds
R9700Pro prices have yet to fall enough to be considered a bargain. Still more than the 9800np (was) at Newegg.
FX5700U just doesn't have the Bang factor compared to the rest of the field. This is a midrange card.

I don't think 9700np exist????

If 9700pro go down may get, i am an nVidia fan in the heart, my geforce 2mx 400 32mb sd lasted me 2 yrs without one prob, only problem i have with the 5900nu is if it will work well with halo jedi acadamy, unreal 2, and half-life2 when it comes out, thats my main thing, and i can't keep this geforce ddr i have in here much longer, considering it's like first ddr card ever made, it's a bit on the slow as hell side, it got 2100 in 3dmark01.

If you want to play DX9 games then wait out this gen of cards. NV40 and R400 will probably fare MUCH better at DX9 titles.

Can vouche for Unreal 2. I have the 5900nu and play Unreal2 with goodies turned up. Smoothe as glass. AA works real nice in Unreal2.

I tried the Halo Demo. It played smoothly but the game itself I wasn't to thrilled with. But the card did nicely.

Thing is i need a card, i am getting by new yr, at the latest possible, i don't wanna have to upgrade again, i am getting for Hl2 alot, but also for Halo unreal 2, and jedi acadamy that are all out atm, so i want a card that is good bang for buck, will work good with those games, and preform good with DX9 games, i finalyl got a job(i'm only 15) so i accually have money to spend on a decent video card, i work hard for my money, dont' wanna blow it, or spend more then i need, but i want a good video card that will work with games out now, and games coming out in next 6-8months, my geforce 2mx worked fine for me with most games i gave it, and it wasn't the best out there when it came out.

random thoughts jumbled, try to read it, excuse my lack of grammer.

I had a Radeon 9800np and returned it for a fx5900np. The stability issues of the Radeon Driver w/ Call of Duty just pissed me off to much. Also, while the graphics were very pretty, they were slow on OGL games and I tend to play a good deal of q3 modded games such as Jedi Knight, Call of Duty, RtCW, NeverWinter Nights, etc.

Max Payne 2 was GORGEOUS and fast w/ the 9800. In fact, that game was the reason I kept the card nearly 26 days before I finally returned it. Call of Duty for some reason just crashed a lot and I was only getting 40fps in Jedi Knight.

Oh, another thing that really pissed me off, the lack of digital vibrance in the ATI drivers. I really like that feature on nVidia drivers and wished ATI had some sort of similar function.

All in all, I'm sticking w/ nVidia for this generation. I would have never replaced my Ti4600 but the fan spun off the spindle (one TWO cards, both bought on the same day, SAME defect w/in 2 weeks of each other, STAY AWAY FROM PNY! :D) but seeing as I had to, I got the 5900np and have been happy thus far.

Hope this helps. Please excuse the spelling, punctuation, grammer, etc. It's late for me :p

I'm siding with you. Its getting too late in this generation to buy a new card.

Well, I think the 9800 is still going to be a lot better in DX9 ? ?.
xbit

So, the only conclusion I can make here is not very promising for NVIDIA based solutions. Even with the new driver the NVIDIA based graphics cards cannot boast high gaming performance in gaming, such as Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, which are actively using Pixel Shaders 2.0

.............?slightly overclocked? GeForce FX 5900 Ultra can hardly be able to compete with ATI RADEON 9800 XT in new games, which are using DirectX9 Pixel Shaders.

However, NVIDIA not just launched the new GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and 5700 Ultra. They also released a new ForceWare driver featuring an optimizing compiler for DirectX9 pixel shaders. Of course, the new driver will not be able to eliminate limitations imposed by the GPU architecture, but it definitely makes NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra look not so helpless against the background of ATI RADEON 9800 XT.
Nevertheless, ATI RADEON 9800 XT remains the performance leader in contemporary games and the today?s test session really proves this point.

When the Really Heavy late DX9 games come out .. not Half-Life2 ... NOT Doom3 .. i'm talking the late 2004 2005 games we will all be buying new videocard if we want too play them with more then 30 - 40 Frams and with high detail

as for now just get the card you want ... FX5900nu 9700 and 9800np any one of these cards should work great for the next few DX9 games comming out and they work awsome for the DX8.1 games that are already out now ...

in the end your buying a new card so get the one that best fits your price rang!
