What car repairs are worth it?

I say, drive it until something major happens. As for preventative maintenance....look up what you can do in the scheduled maintenance in the manual.... Don't spend a lot of money doing major things. If you're no longer under warranty, it's not worth spending the cash. Chances are, your transmission will go out before anything else. Otherwise, your seals will start to leak, etc.... In both cases, you would be better off trading the car if you sense a problem is about to occur. Selling the car would only give you liability if you know of the problem before you sell it... That's why it's important to decide when the asset is used up and when it's time to get a new car.

For a 13 year old vehicle, I'd probably hang onto it until 150,000 miles and then trade. You won't get much out of it.

hmmm 2 yrs bout a 1000 into it looks about right to me
Seems to traking 500 ayr like I said 🙂 problem with OLD cars it all starts to fall apart if you don't stay on it!
I've had my Corsica 9 yrs and have put into it wear and tear items you expect tires/brakes/batteries/tune ups/ tranny flushes <500 a yr
The only thing that hasn't been regular maintenance, an alternator, $60 installed by me
and Ball joints right side. Considering the car has almost 190,000 miles
I don't consider that too bad.
My truck I bought for 4G put 5G into it drove it for 6 yrs and sold it for almost 3G
So it cost me 1000 a yr including depreciation Not even a hundred a month. . .
The figure of 500 a yr wasn't invented by me it was some auto pro guy I heard on the radio talking about 'when is a car not worth owning?'
