What can you do with an economics degree?

I'm graduating within a year or so and wondering what other job possibilities there are for me.

I'm currently working as a network admin so my skills are fairly broad.
 
money management? that's what i was thinking and maybe become an account manager or something.

I really rather not teach econ. I'm bored as hell in the classes I'm taking.

selling crack is another possibility but the opportunity costs isn't that great. 😉
 
Yeah you could take your broker dealer exams and go work for Met Life or Prudential. Financial planners make a lot of money, and all job ratings I have seen put financial planners at the top with doctors and engineers. I did it for awhile but quit to go back to school. Who knows, I might end up going back to it when I graduate.
 
I have an econ degree also, and after graduation, I took a few accounting classes as well, which was a good idea. I now work for the FTB in CA, being a compliance rep for Child Support Program.
 
It is possible to get government jobs where you actually work as an Economist. Other than that, a BA/BS in econ is actually less useful than you think; it's a lot like other liberal arts fields. I have an econ degree and I ended up in accounting. I've kind of moved on to an accounting/cost analysis postion.

I wish I would have focused more on the accounting side of things in school, it's a lot more practical in real life. I'm thinking about going back and taking some classes to become a CPA.
 
You can do anything with a degree in economics.....

People change careers all the time. Just get a degree in anything.
 
it depends on what job markets you're looking at...there is an institutional bias at my alma mater for entry-level econ majors to go into IB and consulting.
 
anything in the finance industry (banks, insurance, brokers, etc) plus tons of gov't work, plus any sort of costing type jobs elsewhere. consultants, that sorta thing. economics is part of the business school at many universities, so its not one of those "useless liberal arts degrees" that the CS and EE bigots around here like to complain about.

really, people should go to job fairs and drop resumes and get internships and things.

i think my family thinks the same way since my 2 brothers got a biology and computer engineering degree and my sister is about to get her computer science. *goes off to his little corner and hides*

Be a housewife..my mother has her Master's in Economics... and shes a housewife.

Dunno of any other ppl with economics degrees.
