I was looking at the requirements to get an econ degree here, and i guess its only 6 more classes than just minoring in econ and using econ as my coherant group as they call it in CS here at ucla. So i'm thinking its a good idea to stay 2 extra quarters and get an econ degree also.

Like what kind of jobs would having both degrees help me out in? I dont really feel that i want to be like a hardcore programmer all day, even though i enjoy it sometimes, becuase well i dont relalywanna spend the rest of my life in a room with a bunch of other guys in front of a computer. so i figure getting the econ degree would help, but would it be easier to get a job at like accenture or something if i did that? my gpa isnt that great either so i need all the help i can get if i want a consulting job.

You can go into ibanking, consulting or management.

For management, you really need an MBA, especially during the recession. But an econ degree is always a good thing to have.

you would think so...

I got my Econ degree from UCLA, with a computing specialization (class of 2001). I'm still looking for a decent job. Stuck doing sales for a dead end computer company. My advice, get started with some programming internships now, and focus on the comp sci. degree. An econ degree doesn't hurt, but in this economy you're more likely to succeed with a programming degree than with an econ. degree.

Oh, and get started on the job fairs a year in advance. Best of luck to you.

Econ degree doesn't do any good. For me, its just a step towards an MBA. I've got an econ degree and have been jobless for the last 2 months. Of course i want to do retail management without experience, so its a little difficult.
