What can you do about a friend who is depressed?

sounds kinda like me, except I don't drink much or hook up with girls.

I spend most of my time alone - when i'm not working I'm at home watching TV or movies or playing games. Sometimes I'll go out and do some target shooting.
About once a month or so I get together with my only real friend and hang out. But again, we just watch movies or play games. I'd like to go other stuff but not sure what to do. He's married and neither of us really has a lot of money.

He plays guitar and I'd love to jam with him but I can't play any instruments. Tried to play guitar but don't have the patience/skill to learn it.

Have him join some meetup groups. I used to be alone and made some friends by joining meetup.com. They have groups for all sorts of things and it can be a lot of fun.
