What can you build with 500 dollars?
I want an Athlon computer with the highest cpu i can get and a decent motherbaord (does overclocking)
i already have a sound card, cdrom, floppy, hard drive, modem, mouse, keyboard, cables

Then you need; CPU, motherboard, Heatsink, video card, and memory.

Memory, 128Mb PC-150 from mwave for $75 (or generic stuff for $45ish)
Motherboard K7T PRO-2Mwave $115
Video and CPU is where the trouble is....
It's a trade off, Big CPU horsepower, or GTS video power.

I think I saw some GeForce2 GTSs for about $160 or so in FS/T (just generic OEMs) then load up on CPU power. You should be able to get a 950 or a 1Ghz.
Or if you are into overclocking get like an 800 and shoot for 1Ghz with it.

about $75-90 for a good one with a AMD approved powersupply.
Looks like it's duron and MX then (or Radeon)

anyway that was $487 plus tax
comes with everything but gas, a gallon of which was $16


then you could get some old 486 from the salvation army for like $25, then you'd have something to do when it rains.

You can get a LeadTek GeForce2 GTS from sg3d for only $175 Retail box. I have the same card and it rocks! I also agree on the MSI motherboard and you could Tbird 700 problebly. If not enough for the Tbird get a Duron 700 and O/C that biatch I also like the memory and prices here memman They have the memory in my sig for only $75 and they have a 6.5/7 on reseller ratings. They rock.

EDIT: THAT GF2 IS ONLY $172 NOW !!!!!

Check out pricewatch. You can get some really good parts there for cheap prices, and most of the companies that advertise are reliable. Just make sure you research the product beyond the pricewatch website, because sometimes the companies selling the stuff are flukes, which you can tell by them lying about specs and stuff.

cool thanks, this is for a friend and he wants to upgrade, he wont settle for a duron, (idiot) a duron 600 is more power then he will ever need...lol....thanks guys for the tips!
