What can UBID.COM do to me?

I didn't want their overpriced item. Via email, they didn't want to do jack.

I canceled my credit card, and changed my address, email address, etc.

And I'm hoping they can't trace me to pay the $20 cancellation fee (for credit card decline).

Am I free from their aweful business practices?

So much for HOT DEALS. :disgust:

This isn't a hot deal, but they can charge your credit card. You can cancel it, but they can still persue it. The credit card company will probably side with them. If you were careless about UBID.COM as you are in posting junk on the Hot Deal forum, it's no wonder. Be more CAREFULL!!

That is what I did when Auction-sales.com did me over on something(Shipping, didn't read the fine print, JERKS) But U-Bid is no where near as bad as Egghead.com or Auction-sales.com

Consider the French Foreign Legion, as after you have posted this off-topic stuff both ubid.com AND the forum police will be after your ass.

uBid sucks. It's better than before, but it still sucks. IMHO :p

Very bad customer service. A guy won an auction with the same bid price I had and they only said he was the winner. So what's the point on bidding? Perhaps we can just ask uBid to let us win sometime. Maybe that way we can get some good deals. :)

Well if he made his bid before you did, it makes perfect sense that you would lose. I think at Ubid, though, if you bid $20 and he had a $5 and upped it to $20, he wins.. for some stupid reason. But if it was a case of him bidding $20 and you bidding $20 afterwards and losing, well.. no kidding :)

The question is: Why do auction sites bite so much? They're always out to scam in some way or fashion.

Ebay: You're always buying from somebody with no face.
Ubid: Always trying to scam you over.
Amazon: Everyone's posting to get some money for free. No product.

And probably the list goes on. There's no use in these dirty tactics.

Boogak is asking "Where's the HOT DEAL?" There was one, as I once thought, but it was a scam. So no hot deal. Just UBID.COM trying to make some cheapshots at me.

Ubid.com is not a rip off. It is the studpid people who don't know the value of what they're bidding on that is ripping you off. These people are the onese that overbid on everything...thinking that they have a good deal. But it is true that Ubid.com posts some ridiculus "maxium bid" suggested for an item. But then people need to do some research before they bid. Also, Ubid.com doesn't post the "maxium bid" on all items, sometimes vendors who use Ubid.com to sell posts the "maxium price". Ubid.com just needs to be more honest about their misleading "maxium bid" value. I've gotten alot of things from ubid for very low prices, sometimes 1/6 of their true value. People just need to be educated about the true value of products and how to find out the true value using the almighty information superhighway.

I like e-Bay. I sell stuff there for more than it's worth, and buy stuff at a fraction of online prices. Just don't buy from sellers with little or no positive feedback(rating). As a seller, you're protected because the buyer send you money FIRST. Recent stuff...sold Celeron366 PPGA for $75, I paid $100 new months ago. Bought a new GeForce2 GTS (nonmx) for $140.

Far as the orignal post goes....UBID may wreck your credit. Cancelling your credit card does not hide your credit record. Even if it was your only card, the "poor credit" will follow you till the day you die. Period.

My two cents....

And.......THIS IS YET ANOTHER THREAD IN THE WRONG FORUM!!!!!

How is UBID able to wreck my credit?
Puh-leese. They can't do jack.
If your credit can wrecked by them, you had no credit to begin with.

That's MY two cents worth.

No one is going to chase you to the ends of the earth for $20. But you just put a black mark on your credit rating, and one day that could end up costing you a whole lot more than $20. Yeah, much, much more.

ubid is a scam because their auctions probably contain fake bidders where the system is placing the fake bids. Of course, there is no confirmation on this, but when you continuously get outbid within seconds of placing your bid... =P

Oh My Gosh! Ubid is way suck! Have you looked at the shipping on most of the items. Jeesch 7.99 + .89 for each pound hmmm lets see 55 lb monitor = $57.00!!!! For a 17" Monitor. That is plain out robbery.

UBid is a mixed bag as far as product quality too. Refurbished items in any bulk can be interpreted as piece of crap models with severe problems. Usually anyway.

You are also hard pressed to find high quality items in many categories.

Their customer support is typically decent though.

Argonaut, I am amazed if that story is true. You have to be insane if you think that changing your email address will get you out of the payment. And doubly insane to jeopardize your credit over 20 bucks.

Trust me man: Pay the money.

TRW
Experian

These 2 companies run an ongoing record of every credit card, Loan, Mortgage. etc.. on every citizen on the United States. They can find you so easy:)

If you have blackmarks on your credit you will have trouble with

Employers (they run checks). Banks (loans for house, Car, Boat). Utilities(you will have to leave larger deposits as they cannot deny you Elec and Water). I'm not fortelling doom and I doubt it will come to this, but this is a genral idea of credit in this country.
Remember this Nation is built on theoretical debts and IOU and something has to keep it all in check. When someone skips out on an official debt(especially 20 bucks) it is an indication to these companies that your character is high risk and they would be wise not to give you any credit at all.

Sam the Cynic

Note: All records drop off after 7 years and 10 years for official bankrupticies I believe. However, take not that credit records are similar to Traffic tickets and minor criminal offenses. They may 'drop' off your record like magic after some years, but you can bet your sweet little a** that there will always be a record out there and it can be pulled in an instant.

Hey yo sweetca,

What if I didn't use a credit card? I used a check card instead. Isn't there some leeway?

ubid is ok, they make some profit on shipping, but i've purchased ~$1000 worth of stuff there this past summer and everything was a-ok. i even bid on a refubished product and when it came, it turned out to be new. i wouldn't buy anything that refubished unless it is really cheap, but their new stuff is good if you know what you should be paying for it.

Argonaut, I am not an expert on the subject but I believe that Check cards DO have leeway. You never actually signed an official document to receive an extension of credit from a CREDITOR.

Check Cards are merely cards that access money in your bank account, which is not Credit.
These cards merely hold the Visa/MasterCard logos as cross licencing deals similar to FirstStar, Union, etc.. so that you can use them everywhere.

In other words if you pull a credit report you will notice that it will not contain any Bank Accounts because these are assets. Credit Agencies can only track CREDIT issued to you.

Auctions were awesome -- back in 1996. Then they started using fake bidders and basically just dicking everyone over. I scored some terrific deals back then, but all of a sudden the prices started jumping over retail as more and more idiots went online. Now, when I want to sell something near full price, I take it to e*bay -- capital of idiot bidders.

PLEASE PEOPLE (sweetca, emjem, others) dont give legal or financial advice when it is WRONG. Ubid CANNOT place a "mark" on your credit report!!!

To all the other people urging this guy to pay the $20, EDUCATE yourself before making comments such as that and save YOURSELVES money as well...

Only your creditors can report negative credit information about you, not any joe blow company who says u owe em money. Court liens and judgments aside of course, but ubid or ANY net company is never going to do that...it has to be WORTH it for them to pursue, say a large mechanics or construction lien....

relax as long as they didnt charge your card and you cancelled your card u are without worry. Dont give anyone your $20. Call a lawyer that offers free telephone consultations, see what they say...

But I must agree with the others in that you need to pay more attention and be more responsible about what you are bidding on (and where you post)....its carelessness that causes most of the problems like this
