Slash funding to schools. The GoP won't object.
How would that action at the federal level lower property taxes?

The United States spends over $600 billion a year on public K-12 schools. Less than 9 percent of that money comes from the federal government, and it is almost exclusively dedicated to specific populations of children, most notably students with disabilities and students in low-income communities.

Move to a state that doesn't have them. Or at least lower ones. I put my money where my mouth is and moved out of IL and that was one of the reasons. Property tax bills in IL were horrible. My property tax was $10,000 a year. I have a similar house in Kentucky and it's $4900 here.

$5k is nice. We are looking at about 15k here in NJ for our budget (800-850K).

Looks like 54 billion bucks can be eliminated from property taxes!! Hey may not be much, but it's a "cut" right?

If the Federal government, which receives no money from property taxes, cuts its education spending to $0, how will that lower property taxes for people at the state & local level? Local and state governments will still be contributing the same amount (and potentially more now that they have to make up a collective ~$54 billion shortfall).

Funny, Trump voters make more than the national average. Sounds like the uneducated are more likely to be voting democrat, hmmmm? Could it be that it's actually democrat fat cats that abuse the uneducated to push their corporate lobbyist agenda?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...age-voter-income-72000-middle-class/83972800/

They make more with less education because they get that sweet premo white welfare. That's why they voted for the alt-right promise to keep them on top of the ethnic totem.

Trump is going to further limit or eliminate federal income tax deduction for property tax to pay for his tax cuts for the rich, according to his treasury pick from Goldman Sachs. So prepare for your effective property tax to go up, not down.

Majority of the country (_ESPECIALLY_ the middle class) take the standard deduction - and therefore deductions such as those are highly more geared towards the ~Top 5%. Hell, I'm likely around the top 10% and I still don't have enough to itemize over the standard deduction.

You should be praising things like that. Or do you not want the rich to pay more taxes? Keep producing the hypocritical liberal tears. Sob sob.

This will mostly impact the middle class, because the rich will get an income and capital gains tax break that more than offsets their mortgage deduction. So instead, upper middle class, whose spending is supporting the rest of the economy, will get squeezed to pay for tax cuts which don't help the economy much, if at all.

That was the one silver lining from having that giant property tax bill in IL. I'd be going through Turbo Tax and my return would be in the red. Type in that $10,000 state property tax and it's like hitting the jackpot at a casino. Just minus the dinging bells and flashing lights. But watching the numbers go up and into the green. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Makes me want to move one state further south. TN has no state income tax and it's property taxes are dirt cheap.

Not true, about half of homeowners itemize. (I know I do)

If you think the net tax burden on the rich is going to rise under Trump I have a bridge to sell you.

Already massive headwinds for housing:
- Housing prices are already elevated and affordability stretched after a long period of low interest rates.
- Mortgage Interest rates are going up in anticipation of Trump's porkulus and Fed meddling resulting in inflation.
- Dollar is strengthening on higher rates, making US investment property more expensive for foreigners.

Hey, here is a great idea, let's make effective property taxes higher by eliminating the deduction, to make sure the market crashes.

it's not obviously fake, it's admittedly fake.
Oh yeah, and everything in that bullshit you just read is completely and totally false. There has been no such conclusive study, and all of the “Finds” are based on public paranoia. Chances are good that if you are a conservative, you were empowered by this new find.
If you, even for a second, thought this find might be true, you are probably an idiot.

The irony here is just too much. Are you a parody of a real human being?

Can somebody clue me in? Did I just read a thread in which a person asked how Trump could lower property taxes then linked to a study that shows liberals have lower IQs than conservatives and that link was a phony?

Two (three?) falses make an equivalence.

While I respect certain conservative values, this is one of the values I hate the most: the "screw everyone else, I got mine" mentality.

Your property taxes don't just go into a void, and you still benefit indirectly from education funding through a more intelligent population (whether or not kids are getting the best education is another story). Besides, just because you might be childless right now doesn't mean you'll be that way forever. Imagine you start raising a family and your kids are just entering school... won't you be glad that you poured money into the system for years beforehand, making sure it's as strong as it is when your kids set foot in the classroom?

I'm not arguing for some socialist utopia. What I'm saying is that there are good reasons why you pay taxes on things you don't directly benefit from, and that a world where people only ever pay taxes for things they use just isn't realistic.

??? Most conservatives support shifting the tax burden to more local government entities so that individuals can self-select into a location where the tax/service ratio meets their preferences and needs. If a particular individual like the OP wants to advocate for a higher or lower tax rate in their state/town that's their right, it doesn't mean they'll get their wish but there's no harm in asking. As for what Trump can do, preferably nothing. The very last thing he should be doing is subsidizing state spending (and possibly allowing them to maintain lower state/local tax rates) with federal dollars like Obama did.
