Can anyone find a good price on the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0 GHz + fan?

I've tried looking, but I can't find any good ones without needing a fan?

My budget was $45.

I hope you contacted Acer about the compatibility of their mobo with that 6000+ CPU because some manufacturers don't provide updated BIOS.

I would reuse the heatsink and fan that's on the current chip. It's likely the same as what shipped with the 6000+, despite the difference in TDP.

So the 6000+ is a good choice too? I saw the 6400+ was a bit out of their budget.

Dude, its completely irrelevant until you can get confirmation that you can upgrade this OEM board at all. OEM boards are super finicky.

Also, I've dealt with this situation a million times before. They go "can you make my computer faster/upgrade my computer" then I respond "It'll be way smarter and roughly the same price to buy this el cheapo modern barebones and put a hard drive in it" and then they go "No we should just update this one"

--> "Look, you asked me for my help because I know about these kinds of things. That's the answer. I'm not going to upgrade that thing." Personally I couldn't care less about offending someone who asks for my help then refuses it when it doesn't take the form they prefer. If they want it done their way so bad, they can go ahead and do it themselves.

Just make sure you get new thermal paste and clean off the old stuff

Great. I was able to find the 6000+ for $40 (like new cpu only),so I'll use the sinkfan already inside, and I bought some thermal paste (arctic silver 5), so this should be a smooth install.

Also found out, I shouldnt have to update the BIOS with this CPU. I appreciate all the help btw guys.

2014 era mid range phones are faster than old Athlons. Seriously. Whoever is using this box really should know that a modern platform is substantially faster.

I get that too. People want to put Win7 on a Pentium 4 rig. Or they want to "fix up" a totally trashed laptop. (Dead / cracked screen, all but one USB port dead, HDD with bad sectors, ... basically, it's trash. Put it out of it's misery.)

Edit: On the other hand of the spectrum, are the people that want Windows 8.1, but ONLY on a touch-enabled device, as they believe that you can't use Win8/8.1 without touch. (I dunno, they might be right. The interface with mouse / keyboard sucks.)
