... besides crashing. Seriously though, jokes set aside, what am I limited to in Windows 2000? I use my computer for browsing, e-mail, music, games, and DVD's... now I hear games can be a problem in windows 2k. So will games not work at all? I mainly play UT, Quake 3, and the SIMs among others... I want to know if there will be a problem w/ win2k. I know, I always have the choose of going dual-boot, but I don't want to go through that hassle. I want a nice simply system with only ONE OS.

No, not every game out there works well on 2K, but most do, and certainly everything under development Will. The gaming industry knows that hardcore computer users are going to 2000 and are Going to support them with software.

oh no, I don't doubt that it isn't a solid OS, I just want to know I can play my favorite games if I'm going to install it. My super-fast computer would be kinda useless if I can't play UT and quake 3 
. Oh and one more thing before I do a reformat... is gaming performance reduced in windows 2k? Will I get lower FPS? Additionally, I hear that windows 2k support for my Radeon blows. Does this remain true even w/ new drivers?

Radeon performance and support has improved with the latest radeon Drivers. It should be getting better from here on out. You will loose a slight bit in FPS on win2k, but not something you will notice significantly. You trade some speed for Stability. If you want to tweak more speed out fo win2k, then creae a seperate account just for gaming. Give this account only user rights. It will not load a lot of the services that acompany an admin account and therefore give you less overhead to deal with.
I'd be 100% Win2000 except that my ATi TV-Wonder has shit for drivers in Win2000....

Win 2K still has some issues with certain games, however this seems to be based upon the system configuration, because games that refuse to run on my Win 2K system have run without problems on other people's Win 2K systems. As long as you have up to date drivers and avoid DX8 you should be fine gaming on Win 2K though. DX8a may have fixed the problems that cropped up with DX8, but I have not tried it because my DVD software refuses to run on DX8 and I don't want to risk having to re-install everything because DX8a does the same thing.

I dunno about this one, I think I'm getting 2nd thoughts. I may end up sticking w/ winme despite it's horrendous stability. You see I'm a hardcore FPS gamer and I'm afraid I might additionally lose game/DVD video quality w/ the win2k Radeon drivers... maybe when the drivers and software implementation are better will I brave it out and switch OS's
Uhhh, if you are thinking about playing the game Alice, you better forget playing it on 2000! Things like that are what are keeping me from going all out 2000. My main machine runs 98SE and my other two machines run 2000Pro and Server. I wish freakin' Whistler would finally come out so I can dump this 98 crap!
Nevermind, I figured it out (and don't ask what I did wrong)! Cool! Now I'm going to see if MAME works on 2000, and if it does I'm dumping this 98 crap!
hey Mad, if your worried about QIII and UT on 2000, don't! These games work GREAT under 2000! I couldn't get NFSIII to work under 2000 but NFSPU work fine. They'll be very few games that don't work under 2000 and most of the popular games run just fine. I'd say I like playing UT and QIII on 2000 better than 98.

i dont know if anybody else mentioned it, but a lot of music programs do not work in win2000, especially instrument drivers.. that is if you are musician like me

That is the funny thing, i have win 2k and i have not had one game that has not worked, however, on my friends computer, nearly all games do not work!!!!! :Q

What games don't work in 2000, edblor? Must bee some old stuff. I know nba2000 dosen't work, but that game out in 99. Others than that? I've tried a lot, so I know that almost everyone works.
Using Win2K, been doing so since RC2 now.
The only games that dont work for me are some really old DOS games, and one Win32 game, Motorhead, aside from that everything's fine.
Using a GF DDR, and framerates are better in some cases, worse in some, but allways +/- 5% so no biggie.

loosbrew: what's the problem? I have it running under my work PC and home PCs. Both Win2k. I had it running on a Geforce2, Voodoo3 and i810 cards. No problem.
i get an open GL subsystem couldnt open error, when i try to start the game. wont load or anything. i wonder if my old banshee crd cant handle it?
