What can I do to my 98 Avalon to... make it go really really fast?

Like the title says. Looking around on the web, I see all kinds of aftermarket stuff for Accords, Altimas, Camrys, Corollas, etc. But nothing for my car. So, what can I do? I don't need it to go fast, I just wonder if there are any kinds of cool things I can get to make it a little more powerful, or perform or handle a little better.

Take out the spare tire, add an intake, cat-back exhaust, high flow cat, remove your a/c belt and compressor. Take out power steering too. After all that, you might get an extra 15 hp.

Really really fast . . . ?

Driving off a cliff it will reach 32 feet per second per second . . . off a really (really) high cliff (try the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado) it will go really (really) fast.

Hook it to a Lightning and tow it:D

You could do it the saftey way - strip it of all it's interior, add on a non-existant supercharger, and say it does 12's :D Anyway, the Avalon isn't a popular car to mod, which is the reason it has a limited aftermarket.

Some NITTO, Koni and Type-R stickers add at least 50hp! If you really want to start cleaning up the streets in your town, you could look into body kits, headlight eyebrows ('cause this ride is gonna be hella mean, y0!), and a rear spoiler from Wings West or your neighborhood R/C airplane hobby shop. You will have maD KRaZy phAsT $k!11z, y0!!

There is no considerable way to make an Avalon a fast car to my knowledge unless you do an engine swap. If you want a sports car, buy a real sports car.

Yeah, but what will the resulting vector be? Falling at 32 feet per second squared does me no good if my horizontal velocity is only 100mph. ;)

My speedometer goes up to 140, but the fastest I've ever driven in my entire life was 120 in my '96 GMC Sierra. ;)

I've seen a Lightning towing a boat beat a Tahoe, which probably is faster than an Avalon (if the Tahoe was equipped with the old 350) :p You see lots of weird car stuff down here in TX

Seriously, check to see if the engine is the same as those found in other cars which do have aftermarket parts available. Some of the parts may interchange. Also, you may be able to add a nitrous-oxide kit, as those tend to be fairly universal.

A radar gun can capture the final speed of the diving Avalon. One mile of free fall will get some pretty impressive velocity even if this beast isn't all that aerodynamic. Best of all, no previous modification is needed. Well - even better - if you work your insurance coverage right you can buy a real sports car that goes really (really) fast without looking like a ricemobile.

:D

And I "buried" the spedometer on my Porsche (150) a long time ago (and in a galaxy far away) - even my nerve was starting to break when I let off the gas. Really (really) fast is really (really) dangerous and expensive.;)

Well, the engine is a 3.0 litre V6, the same as in the 98 Camry. How interchangeable are parts?

I live in Texas. :) One time, I saw this crazy motorcycle. The rear end of the motorcycle was a 78 Cadillac. It didn't look very aerodynamic. ;)

well can't u stick a supercharger or turbos on most anything? i figure thats the most surefire method:p i'm pretty sure they stick a decent sized engine in avalons, u have a bit to work with.

One other possible suggestion: If you really want to get into it, pull intake/heads and port them (can use Extrude-Hone on the intake, it's a process that sends abrasive goop through the ports and opens up the passages). Port the heads to remove casting flash and any other irregularities which reduce flow. Also replace throttle body and mass-air sensor (if any; I'm not familiar with these engines, so I don't know if they're used) with slightly larger units. All this along with less-restrictive exhaust should help. However, it's probably not worth the effort on such an unpopular (to modify) vehicle.

If I ever feel the need for speed and drive it off a cliff, then I'll need that stuff. ;)

Heh.. I used to work with a guy who put a Vortech supercharger on an Infiniti I30... So I guess you're right, you can supercharge almost anything :)

With the right amount of money, you can do anything. ;)
