The site: Psychtalk.info

I've started a new website focusing on mental health support. Right now I'm just working on the groundwork getting everything set up. I've put in the categories I know about, I know I am missing a great deal more. I also don't want to go overboard with having too many places to stash stuff as I want to keep the place lively if it ever takes off.

How should I go about promoting the site? How do I build a user base?

Come to my place, bring the reefer and I'll get you girls and chips.

on the virus front, much progress has been made in MSDOS BASIC and I'm working on the pascal tie in and will be routing all traffic through the port socket layer 115 so I should be able to defeat detection by norton antivirus. pifts.exe.bat.vbs.scr.pdf

that seems to be the key. I feel like an army of one in my own little castle at that site right now 😉.

hmm you should write articles pertinent to the topics at hand so people have a reason for coming

This. Blogging and writing articles is important if you want to get noticed. It not only gives people stuff to read, it lets people know that you know what you're talking about.

EDIT: You might want to look into a CMS. I know you want the forum, but having a CMS in addition to one might not be a bad idea.

EDIT 2: You should start getting around to other related sites and getting your presence out there. It might help to put some other people on your blogroll, and hopefully they'll do the same.

EDIT 3: SEO Optimization. 'nuff said.

I don't know anything about this stuff!

I guess I could TRY...

SMF has a nice CMS you can tie in to it so I will look at that.

Well theres gotta be a reason you're making a website about psych stuff right. if you had psych issues in the past, then you could share those stories, that might make people more willing to open up and post if someone else has alreayd done it.

Usually people make a website w/ content first, then add the forums later. You're kind of skipping step 1 here.

I wanted to have the bedrock before I built the house but I get what you are saying, I also am looking for feedback on the layout and content...do I have too much something? did I miss something? could I make something more interesting?

You have a simple forum, and nothing else. Not much to judge. If you want, PM me and I can try to help you out with the design/layout aspects.

The layout looks fine, might be a little too futuristic but in general its fine.
