Hey, i haven't used those lists, they were given to me.

Well, as i've said before, i have not sent a single email that would be considered spam . My summer job is to notify the people that live in the far Eastern countries of some new immigration policies. That's all i know so far, as my boss hasn't filled me in. Either way, i know her intentions are to help those in the East, not to fill their inboxes with useless junk.

So what your saying is that you didn't spam anyone, but was willing to sell the list to a spammer.

Ummmmmm, judge I swear I didn't smoke the crack, I just sold it........:D

But you promote spam by selling those lists. You haven't used them, but your gonna sell them to other people. Great. Making money off of that.

Alrighty, well, this ties back to my other thread about some guy threatening to report me to ebay for taking his text description of an item on ebay, UNLESS i gave him what i was selling. So i just waited calmly, trying to force him into explicitly typing out the words i needed for it to be considered blackmail. Surely enough, he came through with this:

good god u were scared cuz of that? i do it all the time, its faster. whats the worst that could happen eh? u change a few words of ur descript and its "different" :p either way, he doesn't own anything., u owe nothing. spit an evil email back at him asking for his stuff so u don't go and rape his ass.

/me raises motion to not help this person in any way.

I don't care if you're using it yourself or not. If you're selling the product, you're enabling someone ELSE to spam us all. That said, I hope eBay does pull your account - and all other spam-related auctions too.

It's like a drug dealer saying, "Hey, I just sell the drugs.. I don't use them."

Here's the description you posted on Ebay:
This list was obtained from a project that was conducted by Newport Internet Marketing Inc. from 07/15/96 till 5/02/2002. This company used "free giveaways" as well as "chance to win opportunities" to acquire a humongous database of e-mails. These emails are from major E-mail Providers such as AOL, Earthlink, Hotmail and Yahoo. This list is in .txt format to simplify the sending process since .txt format is most compatible with most bulk email software. E-Mail Marketing is considered the number one method for marketing products or services online. Being able to successfully maintain a good campaign can bring a great increase in hits to one particular website. On average this list can accumulate 25,000 hits a month. Imagine if 1 out of 100 decides to purchase whatever it is you are offering on your website. This would give you 250 customers a month. Email advertising is very cost effective if done the right way.
I don't care why you have that list. Openly selling it to others like that makes you as bad as the worst spammer. :|

So what if being asshole is legal? It's also legal to call him an asshole for doing it. :disgust:

Good, so you won't mind if I use your email address to sign up on all those porn sites? It's not a question of legal or not legal, it's a question of moral. It is exactly the same as a crack dealer if he knowingly distributes something that will claim victims, although not in the physical sense as crack will do. The mental anguish alone will do.

Being an accomplice doesn't really cut you much more slack... actually, more than just an accomplice... you're actually encouraging people who may not have considered spamming me yet.

I swear, if I got paid for all the time I spend trying to keep my inboxes free of junk mail...

Hey, everyone's got a right to make a living any way they see fit. No sympathy from me on this one though...

Well, sorry guys, didn't mean to raise up such a ruckus in here. There are two things i DO know about that list:

1) they are opt-in, which means they were not extracted in any way, shape, or form. Unless you clicked "I agree" when signing up for some service without reading the contract, you will not be on this list.

2) the list is old

I never thought that after being in this community for almost three years, that i would be flamed for trying to make cash. What am i supposed to do at age 17, besides work? You guys have been there. Wanting something, and trying to find something worth selling, where you CAN make a quick buck or two. Put yourself in my position. If you were sitting on a possible 250 dollars, would YOU not sell it? Sure, it might be immoral and whatnot, but 250 dollars. You can't deny that it is quite a sum of money, especially at this age. So flame on if you want, just answer my question, if you were in need of cash, would you sell the list? Or would you let it sit there, collecting dust?

NO! And your lame attempt at justifying your actions sucks as much as your selfishness! Until you grow up and learn something about personal responsibility, you're still an asshole. :|

I don't ever remember seeing "I agree to be inundated by spam forever, please distribute my email address far and wide" as an option on any web site.

It probably actually says that in the fine print (so fine you need a 40000x30000 resolution to read it....:D)

You are a POS. Your little attempt to explain your reasoning sucked, and I would've just deleted the list. :|:|:|

And that guy who stood up for you is a bigger idiot.
