What can I do about this situation?

I emailed my prof. explaining my situation and she said she would withdraw me from the course if I did not take the exam before the final.

I did not take that exam + final.

My grade for the course: F

The email she wrote me clearly said that she would withdraw me from the course. That is why I didn't take the final. Had I known that she would have given me an F I would have at least tried to get a C in he course.

Think I have a good chance with the higher ups to clear this? I emailed her back addressing my concerns and I'm waiting for her response.

call her and see what the deal is.

worse case scenario, your university should have a structure/policy setup for grade appeals, at which point you can show the email where she said she was dropping you from the course to whoever handles the grade appeals (it was the department chair in my school, or the dean of the college if you were appealing a grade giving to you by the chair himself).

We emailed several times about this, but her last email was this:

"You must take the exam this week, or I will withdraw you from the course. The exam is far more than just an essay question. It is a multiple choice plus essay. You need to go back to the syllabus and read what is there to see what you are supposed to do and how everything is handled."

I didn't respond to that email.

Why would she withdraw you from the course? All the universities I attended, if you wanted to withdraw you had to do it yourself, not leave it up to the professor. That seems to be your mistake IMHO, unless your school has a clear cut withdraw policy that supports you in this situation.

Not to mention that I've never heard of any reputable school allow anyone to make a formal withdrawal (W grade) near the end of the semester. Policy usually varies but at the most it's halfway through the semester. Even situations where a student has died past the withdrawal period will result in an F grade.

I couldn't drop my class or withdraw it. The time for it had already passed. That's why she said she would do it for me if I didn't make it to the next exam. Well, that's what I thought she meant.
