I don't think you can do anything about that but physically swapping the devices. Win2k doesn't permit manually allocating resources unlike win98. Are you using ACPI or Standard HAL?

Hi Dark i'm using ACPI
I installed an external zip100 USB and now the PC hangs for awhile before shutting off .I was wondering if it was because of these conflicts?

thanx for your write :)

Your problem could be due to the IRQ sharing... there's good news and bad news on that issue though.

You CAN infact manually allocate resources in Windows 2000... however, if ACPI is enabled you can't change them. One would think disabling ACPI in windows would be enough, but it's not. You must disable it in the BIOS BEFORE you install windows 2000, and during the install disable ACPI... so unfortunately, for those of us who didn't do that, you can't change IRQ's manually...

Dark is it true that some boards don't support APM when ACPI is disabled namely some of the newer boards. I have an Intel D815EEA board and I went to disable ACPI but I can't install the Legacy NT APM support. So now it can't shut down automatically!!

IRQ SHARING UNDER ACPI IS NOT A CONFLICT!

IT'S PERFECTLY NORMAL, AND IN MOST CASES, IT WORKS FLAWLESSLY!

Y'all need to shed the rules you used to play by. It's entirely normal, and expected, for many devices to share an IRQ under ACPI in W2K.

Unless something isn't working, this isn't a problem at all.

Even if something ISN'T working, it's not likely to be caused by IRQ sharing.

I honestly have no idea why ppl get so excited about this issue. It's just old habits dying hard, I suppose...

Sorry for the late answer, I've been away for a while. While most of the time IRQ sharing is not a problem under win2k, using Standard HAL with each device on its own IRQ makes the PC faster for sure. The bad news is that it's gonna run hotter.
MuLla: I've seen that before on some customer's computers under win2k. That's the OS you're using too?

Dark Yer I tried installing w2k as a standard PC with my Intel D815EEA board and somehow there is no setting for APM in the BIOS and furthermore I can't seemed to get APM installed in device manager. I know how to do it as it worked perfectly under my BE6-2 box. Guess APM is being phased out on the newer boards :(
