Got a deep fryer as a wedding gift and have never had one before, what are some good and easy meals that can be made with one?

I'm thinking chicken strips, fried fish and homemade fries are a must but besides that I'm not really sure what else to do with it.

Just say some place was frying soda! so seems you can fry a lot of odd things.

Corn dogs, fried shrimp, all sorts of potatos... The key to good fried foods is keeping the oil at the right temperature. Too hot and your food will burn on the outside and not cook on the inside. Too cold and it will be greasy.

One of my favorite things to deep-fry is beer-battered shrimp. Go get yourself 1 to 1.5 lbs of fresh peeled and deveined prawns, then look up a goot beer-batter recipe and you'll be in good shape!

Yup, fried Oreos would otherwise be so unhealthy.

BTW, our deep fryer is gathering dust in the nether regions of the cabinet. Too much hassle to clean after using, and I hate dealing with used oil. DO NOT dump used cooking oil in the sink. It goes in your trash.

Coconut shrimp :D

INGREDIENTS

* 1 egg
* 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
* 2/3 cup beer
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
* 2 cups flaked coconut
* 24 shrimp
* 3 cups oil for frying

DIRECTIONS

1. In medium bowl, combine egg, 1/2 cup flour, beer and baking powder. Place 1/4 cup flour and coconut in two separate bowls.
2. Hold shrimp by tail, and dredge in flour, shaking off excess flour. Dip in egg/beer batter; allow excess to drip off. Roll shrimp in coconut, and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, heat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) in a deep-fryer.
3. Fry shrimp in batches: cook, turning once, for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown. Using tongs, remove shrimp to paper towels to drain. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Uggg I can't imagine why that's good. If I eat oreos they have to be fresh out of the fridge, nice and cold is the only way I like them!

In regards to what to cook, pretty much anything you can think of. How big is the deep fryer? Big enough for a cornish hen?

I point you to the King of the Hill episode where Boomhauer and Bill get a turkey fryer. Answer: everything, but bananas just seems awesome.
